Hiya, Not that fast for a fishing boat, there are plenty faster boats about. This is a very light boat, dont think its more than 450kilos, I got the speed from the GPS....it is truly fast.....got an Evinrude 50 on it..tho it is rated for a 70 hp...which has been fully overhauled last week, and is as good as the day it was built...according to my engineer chappie anyway....In fact, I have a newer (2 year old) 60 Mariner on order for it.... :D:D

Mibbes Nick will confirm the rate of knots, as it was his boat before I got it...I do know that he went to Muck (18miles) in under 40 mins......

In sleep every dog dreams of food, and I, a fisherman, dream of fish..

The best I ever managed was only 49 knots!!!

Seriously fast! The speed is taken from the GPS, I know some people don't think that gps speeds are always that accurate.

The only confirmation of the sort of speeds this boat does is that one day I went from Muck to Eigg, a distance of about 5.5 miles, pier to pier, in slightly over 7 minutes. Given that I was being sensible in and around both harbours I reckon the GPS gives a fairly accurate speed.

I have to add that the day I did the run to Eigg the sea was like a mirror, and I could see anything on or near the surface of the sea, as the biggest danger in a boat that size travelling at that sort of speed is hitting a floating fish box or similar (or larger!) item. The consequences really do not bear thinking about. (And yes, I was showing off, a "friend" had a new rib which he was bragging about all over the west coast 'cos it was seriously fast - so I shut him up for a while.)
