What animal did I see?

Small river, and suddenly some large bubbles come to the surface next to the bank, shortly followed by the stream of bubbles moving across the water to the other bank, and then off downstream.

They were big bubbles for a vole (I would have thought, never actually seen a vole bubble!), so was it perhaps an otter?

Edited to make my steam a stream!

I'll tell you what it wasn't...a bloody fish!

Tell the truth, I've forgotten what one looks like!

My local carp puddle is looking mighty tempting! B)

Well, I shall keep my eyes peeled next time I'm at that location, and see if I can't get some photos. I'll be very excited if it's an otter!

Similar thing happeed to me this afternoon except that an Otter surfaced two feet away from from where I was fishing.Nearly s--t a brick. It then dived and swam to the far bank leaving a trail of large bubbles. It re surfaced 10 yds down river and carried on as if nothing had happened. It is the first time I have seen one on this river although there have been several sightings.
