PC tax

rob.i

Recommended Posts

after the fiasco of that bloke using his pc to promote terrorism i suspect rather than a tax to watch tv it will be a tax on pc's full stop

this government is really getting to grips with its big brother act ,tha tax will not be a tax as such but i suspect a list of pc owners the "tax" paying for the list makers work

and the posters above are right anything that is capable of recieving TV need's a licence this also could be non internet capable pc's as well as i picked up a dongle for 50p that enables your pc to attach to any video source and see it on the monitor and ofcourse with a proper card terrestrial and satellite tv is available without a TV so avoiding the compulsory details when buying a real tv thats sent away for processing.

I was always led to beleive if you have a licence you can have as many TVs as you like.

2/3 years a go somebody was fined for not having a licence, watching TV on pc. Tax is another thing.

the licence really covers one colour tv and one black and white using its own internal batteries but its overlooked and you use one licence for a household as it would be ny impossible to detect which tv is the licenced one from outside the house :) a video recorder alone even if you havent a tv (although not of much use) is enough to need a licence

Stop being so anal about cookies then. Your site uses them too you know.
A. I'm not - I use Zone Alarm Pro and it seems to screw up lots of sites. I have never found out how to set it up properly - I can't even see images from my other sites with it :)

B. As far as I know, the only bits of this site that uses them are the bits that require a log in. We used to allow posts by guests, but it got trashed.

Cheers for your helpful comments, anyway.

When TVin cards were 'modern fangled' my then ATI 'ALL in wonder' card had a TV licence form for the dealer to send off. After a few weeks we got a letter from the Licence bods telling us to get one. I wrote back stating that the card was used as a std PC graphics card and we only used the 'TV in' function for getting video off a camcorder. We were then told we did not require a licence in this instance.

As for what the licence allows - it's for all tv's in a personal dewelling (max 15?). It covers you for a portable (with internal batteries!) if you are a student & ma&pa have a licence.

If you have a second home or caravan then you should have a separate licence for each 'dwelling'.

As for if & when we can 'watch the telly' over the internet - they have not got that one covered - yet!

You do not always need a seperate licence for a second home, holiday home, caravan, boat etc.

Information taken from the link in the previous post.

quote:

From TV Licensing information:

If your second home is a house, cottage, flat, bungalow or any other permanent building, you need to have a separate TV Licence to cover this address.

If you only use a TV set powered by its own internal batteries, you do not need a separate TV Licence.

If you watch or record TV programmes in a second home which is a touring caravan or vehicle, or a boat, you do not need a separate TV Licence; you will be covered by the TV Licence for your main residence.

only if your not letting someone watch your house telly whilst your spending a week in the rain :D

there were no details taken when i bought my all in wonder maybe because the card was crap and couldnt lock onto channels in fringe areas, the software was dire as well :D
