Just about every organised body has a multiword name from which an acronym relating to its activities can be derived. Is this one accidental?? :D:D

A little over 10 years ago, I was living and working in the northeast. At that time, the polly’s were becoming universities and there was already a Newcastle University in town.

Rumour has it that they got as far as preparing all the headed paperwork, ordering the new entrance signs and drafting the press release about the change from Newcastle Polly to the City University of Newcastle upon Tyne” before anybody noticed the acronym.

Personally, I wish they’d gone for it. T-shirt sales alone would have funded some of the best education in Europe.

In Dubai we had a First Aid Responder Team whose tee shirts were very popular

In Australia, if there's nothing wrong with an acronym, they keep changing the letters around until there is.

Some years ago I had a letter published in Angling Times that purported to come from the Pike Investigation Society (Chairman, Mr. Endrick Banks, Scientific Officer, Miss Helen Highwater). Angling Times didn't see through it until Mark Vogelsang wrote saying that Mr Gibbinson's PIS was merely a sidestream of the main body, the Pike Investigation Society of Southend.

The great supporters of angling, The RSPB, many many years ago had a manager by the name of Linda Peacock whose secretary was a Barbara Buzzard.

Sorry it was off-thread, but reading it brought back a memory or two.

On thread, a close friend of mine had a very embarrassing moment this morning. A neighbour referred to someone phonically as a 'See You Next Tuesday' - which had to be explained to her. Half an hour later, a colleague called her and said 'I'll See You Next Tuesday' My friend went into a fit of giggles and had to explain to her colleague. I'd have loved to have seen it.

This is a signature, there are many signatures like it but this one is mine

I make no excuses for dragging this one back to the top. I've just discovered that the trade association for Dr's that do breast implants is called BAAPS.
