Britannia Rules the Waves?

Have we still got a navy or what?

Now that the Chandlers' yacht has been found drifting empty is it not time this country stood up for itself? How long is our so-called super power going to put up with a bunch of uneducated criminals with home made Kalashnikovs attacking British citizens on the high seas? If a BBC reporter can find these pirates so easily, why can't our military? The BBC reporter describes the shiny new cars belonging to the pirates driving around the town of Eyl. Why are we allowing them to do this? What the hell is Somalia going to do to us in retribution if we unilaterally send in the SAS and wipe them out? They have no army. They have no oil. What are we waiting for?

And for the life of me I can't understand why these pirates are given a lift home when their boats are sunk and they are captured at sea. Let them swim back.

Even the French look after their own better than we do.

And it appears that the Somali authorities WELCOME this kind of action, but Brown still hasn't got the bottle.

not sure if we have a navy anymore ,no its a territorial navy with rented boating lake dingies with an air rifle on the bow.

i myself would send out the modern equivalent of "Q" ships then as soon as the buggers come in blow them out the water (none of this bloody saving them) once a few skiffs never return and theres no-one to tell them why they will think twice i'm sure ,if not blow more up

a ship has wherever it is the right of self defence ,theres little to say how much defence can be used.

I seem to remember the Americans doing particularly well when they sent forces into Mogadishu (remember blackhawk down?) they may be uneducated criminals with AK47s but it doesn't mean they're a pushover.

What do you mean exactly when you say "even the French"?

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

How about Q-ships? If the "pirates" realise that the just can't go after any ship they see, they will turn round and stop! end of problem.

The thing is they have said the magic words "we cannot find anything else to do to survive - we need money for our families???????"................HUH????

Every year there are advertisements on TV asking US for our money to give THEM!!! And this has been going on (and, it seems, will continue to go on) forever! I wonder if someone has the time to work out how much money has been given to African countries over the years. If it's not a famine, it's floods or locust plague etc. What did they do BEFORE all the hand outs?

Now we will get all the "heartfelt" sob stories from the P.C's - well let them answer my last question.

Coming back to the pirates, Piracy has always, almost universally carried the death penalty, so what is wrong with blowing pirate craft out of the water as long as we genuinely try to pick up the survivors (and hand them over to the authorities")

Picking up the survivors, that's what is wrong. Let them swim home. If they happen to be a thousand miles away from home, as this lot were when they boarded the yacht, then they had better be good swimmers or find another job.

Frankly I don't care what the navy can "legally do". The "legal" option is to wait for the United Nations to set up a committee and have a two week meeting in Switzerland, Hawaii, or some other luxury holiday hot-spot, but we all know what that bunch of self serving freeloaders will do. Sweet FA!

Storm in, kill the lot of them and then say we are very sorry and we promise we won't do it again.
