So the world is not on the back of an Elephant standing on the back of a Turtle, swimming in the celestial sea............................. pity.

There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

I have argued that LIFE could not have occurred without fine tuning, and therefore was meant to be in some way.

I think that if the universe was fine-tuned for the 'purpose' of life, it wouldn't be such a hostile place for life in the main, or for any life in such a very, very short time frame of its immense history (both past and future).

(the period when life is possible is just a relatively peculiar blip in the overall timescale)

Surely, a universe 'meant' to accomodate life would be much better 'designed' to do so, and for a greater part of the time of its existence.

i still think he means "man" not life as anything but man.

life is easy but it doesn't have a god so god is irrelevant to life ,man invents god to give life relevance (life as in our life ofcourse)

99.99 of life doesn't need god .

is someone desperately trying to find god in a universe where god is not needed and indeed not even thought of? perhaps their gods stopped having chats?

we think man as being top dog but we've only been around c 4 million years the dinosaurs over 160 million years they got on fine without god I'm sure well in fact I'm positive

Either they did or they didn't, which makes it 50-50. So you can't be so sure eh?

John,

I have a vague appreciation of Bayesian statistics, but I've never used them in anger. I don't think it's that part of your argument I disagree with, though - let me rephrase myself when I get the chance to sit down and do it justice.

I thought the God botherers reckoned the universe was only created 6013 years ago.
No, not all of them. John may be a lot of things but a new Earth creationist he is not.
