Yup, the reverse indeed. The PC group wishes to control everyone while the good ole boy does not. Both can be unpleasant at times but all things considered, I think I prefer folk who don't wish to dictate the behavior of others.

Even Aussie based West Indians were laughing at the ad and one who was interviewed said, "Any one who sees that as being offensive has no idea about the retalionship between Aussie and West Indian cricket fans." It's pretty much the same as it is with the Barmy Army. Shouting each other down during the match and drinking in the same pub after it. I can't believe that KFC have caved in and cancelled the ad! Really, it ought to mean nothing more than having some manners and not being gratuitously unpleasant to people who don't deserve it.

The people who abide by the concept never have and in a democracy their actions are unacceptable to the point where in many respects their conduct is poorer than those of us who refuse to accept the doctrine, but still adopt reasonable standards of behaviour and politeness.

Isn't that a reflection of life generally? How often do we say what we really think in given social and professional settings? I have a friend who does, his 'self censorship filter' is missing and has been for at least the 30-odd years we have know each other, he says exactly what he thinks, if he thinks someone is talking rubbish to him he will say so. As you might imagine he upsets lots of people, but has been great fun to be around. He carries it off to an extend because of his intelligence and the ability to back up what he says.

 

Perhaps most of us go through life much more cautious and therefore less honest in what we say. Because of those who are simply rude/thoughtless/opinionated those PC rules which irritate the rest of us are imposed.

It's the degenderisation of life in the interests of PC which irks me a lot.....

 

As far as I'm concerned 'Chairman' is fine. If you want to be PC about such crap, you could argue that 'man' is a contraction of 'human', which invalidates all the feminist preciousness as well.

 

'Chair' is unacceptable on the grounds of accuracy, other forms are simply so cumbersome they highlight the absurdity.
