If you really want to protect eels, surely the easiest thing to do is kill all the pike, perch, chub, kingfishers, grebes and cormorants found in/ along the rivers that the elvers swim up? Then there'll be loads for the commercial lads to take - happy days!

Sea Anglers' slippery ban

The Environment Agency plans to prohibit the retention by sea anglers of silver eels from the sea in England and Wales as well as from fresh water. The agency estimates that runs of juvenile fish 'have crashed by over 95% across Europe.... and if runs don't improve soon, the long-term future for eels looks bleak'. Angling Trust chairman Mike Heylin said: 'Without major steps to protect eels from recreational angling and commercial fishing, they are unlikely to get back to a sustainable level'

Official A T Quote:

All sea anglers may not be aware of Environment Agency plans to prohibit the retention of silver eels from the sea in England and Wales as well as from fresh water.

The agency estimates that runs of juvenile fish, or elvers, “have crashed by over 95 per cent across Europe…and if runs don’t improve soon, the long-term future for eels looks bleak.”

The Angling Trust supports the move. Chairman Mike Heylin said: "Without major steps to protect eels, they are unlikely to get back to a sustainable level.”

end quote.

Those three paragrapths are enough for me to realise just how far away from the rsa the A T are. The first para should have read, most if not all sea anglers are not aware because the A T knew that the rsa were not consulted, they where party to it.

And two other paragraphs certainly imply that the ban on the rsa take was nessesary. The A T have failed in their involvement in the protection of the eel along with ignoring the rsa instead of consulting, working with them. They should hang their heads in shame. Any chance of an apology or will it be arrogance as usual.

Any hope of improvement regarding the mcz's?

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

“Our members want a total ban and for those catching and processing eels commercially to find new ways to earn their living,” said the chairman, Mike Heylin. ”Consumers can help, too, by not buying eel products.”

Is Mike Heylin a puppet worked by the WWF?

An arse covering excercise will be more like it. They are already trying to say that they did seek the views of their members over the fish removal byelaws and eel ban. Trouble is, the time to have done that was before making their minds up to support them on our behalf, not after the deed was done.

Despite claims of what they were and were not going to do for angling, I don't see anyone from the AT doing anything to defend anglers from such an unnecessary and pointless ban.

DRUNK DRIVERS WRECK LIVES.

Don't drink and drive.
