Got back at tea time after going on Friday but unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worst on Sunday with rain and strong winds. I must admit that I was a bit concerned whether the brolly and wrap was going to hold up last night as some of the gusts of wind were really strong and I had visions of it taking off, however it was great to be there. Glyns PB male is an awesome fish and I would certainly like to make an aquaintance with his brother and sister. It really is a place of dreams and hope that everyone who goes to the fish in sees it at its majestic best.

A great looking fish and a very lucky captor but did I miss the weight anywhere?

 

8lb on the nail, WW - a monster male tench! Well done again Glyn :)

 

What with Glyn's lake record male tench, Terry's massive bream and Dales' bag of big tench (a 9lber in April after the winter we've just had is very impressive) there's a lot to be excited about!

 

I hope the temperatures start picking up soon, we could do with a nice warm May.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

If things improve with the weather, it does get you thinking what may come out at the Fish-In. It could be a very good year, but thats one of the great things about Wingham you never know what you will get with your next bite. Back in March my PB Tench was only 6.02. There can't be many waters were you can smash your PB by so much :D

It's widely believed that female tench will be double the size of the largest male tench in a water so that means there may well be tinca's of over 16 lb grubbing about in Wingham.....an interesting and exciting thought while your sat next to your buzzers !

I think that's been discredited now, but there are almost certainly tench over 12lb in there...somewhere...

I can't even start to imagine what a 12lb Tench would look like, let alone what it would feel like to play one. I think my legs would turn to jelly if I thought I had hooked one and I would end up playing it sitting on the ground :D

 

But with the growth rates Steve has got at Wingham, the idea of a 12lb fish is not hard to believe and if they are not there yet it may only be a matter of time before some reach that size and with so few anglers you can see why if they are there they have not been caught so far. It's why I am always interested in the results thread from the Wingham Fish-Ins as it may be the time when a few new fish turn up.

I don't know who by and how they've done it but the theory of doubling the heaviest male to get an idea of the heaviest female has been kicking about for quite some time now. If you have a female of 12lb without spawn then it can quite easily hold a good three pound of eggs (or more) making a fat 15 pounder :) .
