curiosity made me peep at the pisce`s site ,unfortunatly a lot of what they preach is true :(

regarding the litter and line aspect its up to us to change things ,although i expect most of the trouble comes from FREE fishing venues that are not bailiffed

if ofcourse they are bailiffed the bailiff isnt doing his job in ensuring that litter and line arn`t picked up ,maybe clubs in the catchment of such fisheries should "lend a hand " in cleaning up these areas ,just to "be seen in cleaning up our act" it shouldnt really be needed ,but if no-one else is going to....... . :)

coxie...Good Point,Well Made...a considered reply

to a question most anglers would choose to avoid.

Guess that would be a concensus view,if pushed.

If,however, anglers cannot answer "Yes" to the

question then Huntsmen are their brethren...

Peter Sharp.

Are you by any chance a Monty Python fan?, your tirade against farmers reads similarly to the 'holiday resort' sketch, "and when you finally get to the half build Algerian ruin, theres' no water in the tap, no water in the pool, no water in the bath and theres' only a bleedin' lizard in the bidet". Very funny sketch, your post reminded me of it.

Cheers, Adrian

I must admit that I originally typed it out as a mad rant as I was quite enjoying myself. Then reason took hold, and I thought that I had better ameliorate the piece by adding the odd punctuation mark here and there, as I know some members of the forum are pretty strict about that.

Actually, although Mr.Python may have inflicted a few subconscious mannerisms, I find myself influenced far more by Sir Henry Rawlinson, my ultimate destiny I fear.

English as tuppence, changing yet changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss Havishambling, opsimath and eremite, feudal, still reactionary, Rawlinson End.

Peter Sharpe's rant about farmers is one of the best posts I've read for years!

Top stuff.

Although I didn't spot anything about how Farmers winge about how hard life is in the countryside and yet none of them ever give it up and move to a real job in the inner city...

Any farmers out there fancy changing and moving to a flat in the inner city, by the way, please get in touch with me. I know a few people who'd love a slice of the good life out in the sticks!

Anybody brought up in the country, when referring to foxes, usually clarifies whether they mean the 4 legged kind or the 2 legged kind. This gives you an idea of what we see from our point of view.

There has never been a foxhunt on Portland. There is no gamekeepering on Portland. Why then do ordinary people, who neither hunt nor shoot, find it necessary to resort to poisoning the foxes that have over-run the island (until the mange got rid of a lot of them), without concern about pet dogs.

Without controls, opportunist species (winged, 2 legged, 4 legged etc) will be the only things left. Look what the RSPB do on the Somerset levels!! They employ people to shoot foxes and catch magpies and crows (on condition that all evidence is burnt) in order to protect other species.

Burglars, robbers, murderers, new age travellers, poachers and the like have to be controlled just like foxes. Hunting people get rid of injured, old, starving, diseased and stupid foxes for nothing. In fact they spend a lot of money to do it for nothing. The fox population must be healthier for it.

Me? I'm the sort of person they despise; "The sort of man who shoots foxes".

In the time it takes a bullet to reach it's target, Linford Christie, let alone a fox, could have moved at least a yard. The difference between a clean kill in the head and dragging a foxes innards out of it's backside. I know! It happened to me once. Then again, another time I fired at one cub and another walked across in front of it and I had 2 stone dead for one shot. In either case, I didn't give a damn!!

If your insurance companies and pension funds had not hiked up the price of land in the early 70's from 1890-1950 values, I wonder if there would be so much farmer-bashing. Perhaps you would like to have an investment that brings interest of 0%.

Most inner city flats will bring more in rent than most farms, so come on, put your money where your mouth is!! Get out here and 'earn' a living if you're capable. Or is it just 'PEOPLE YOU KNOW??

Don't do as I do. Do as I say!!
