A certain poster on here had 16 tench from Wingham last weekend including no less than three 9lbers up to 9-11...........

Modesty forbids me saying too much about it, but as Steve mentioned it I had a few nice Tench at the weekend :D

 

The best were 9-11, 9-04, 9-02, 8-11 with some cracking 7's and a few low 8's in the mix. I was just as excited about some of the smaller fish as the big girls as I had a few stunning fish around the 5lb mark that were really dark almost black looking. Will sort out a few photo's tonight to wet your appetite and the exciting thing for those attending the Fish-In is that these, well all the Tench are likely to be a lot bigger by the time the Fish-In comes around.

It would be nice, but I do find the thought of the Bream fishing a little daunting and way outside my comfort zone but will have a try for one later on in the year.

I reckon there's just as much chance of bumping into a bream when tench fishing as there is when actually deliberatly targetting bream. Infact I think the tinca's feeding will most likely put the bream at ease. I would imagine the bream would feed on the edge of the tench shoal... that's just how I'd picture it :)

Hopefully some one on the AN Fish-In will get one, as it's the one weekend of the year when so many rod hours are put in and a lot of water gets covered.

Now that would seem most logical wouldn't it?

 

But in practice it certainly does not seem to be the case! Incidentally I'm not 100% sure why but here are the reasons I say no so make your own mind up-

 

When I first started fishing Wingham (as a guest or on AN Fish Ins) I targeted the Bream as they were really what interested me in the water.I didn't fish a great deal due to not being a member. I did still catch bream though.

 

When I became a member I had a big deterioration in my health (you get these with ME) and despite now having more access to the water I could not fish that regular or put that much effort in.As such I decided to leave the bream alone and take the easier option of targeting the tench with scaled down carp "trapping" tactics.Not as much fun but a lot easier on me and still supplying me with some great fish and fun.During these Tench years Ive not had a single accidental Bream.

 

My brother Andrew has also concentrated on Tench and not had a bream either. He fishes a few days more than I do each season.

 

But for me the best example is undoubtedly the guy who fishes the most hours at Wingham and certainly catches the most Tench each year.....and that's Glyn.He fishes best part of four days a week every week from March onwards.He uses a variety of methods to target the tench. In all the years he has only had one and that was on the float.

 

Alex has had the most bream and he normally fishes for them.Steve B had a good run with a few in the early days whilst targeting them but due to his poor health has mainly tench fished the past few years and not had any more.

 

Steve C has mainly targeted the tench and mainly caught tench! (He had a bream but I dont know if it was while tenching or not). Anderoo has had his whilst targeting them.

 

Now the only exceptions (I think) are Rich Capper and Rob Ward.Im not sure if they caught their bream intentionally,while tenching or (more likely) while trying a more "universal" style aproach, BUT Im fairly sure their bream came after/during a lull in any tench catches.

 

Talking of "lulls" in the tench. This seems a lot more common than catching bream along side tench.Toms bream came after a few days of him and Glyn hammering the tincas then it all going quiet for some time.

 

Make of it what you want but this seems to be what happens! Veiws?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
