Thank you for the endorsement Don, don't get many of those, appreciated.

Since Fox only make 'specialist' floats for pikers and carpers I wonder, then, just how many anglers have never used, or even actually own a float?

Sad thought that there are all those anglers out there who have never experienced the joy and the thrill of float fishing.

There is no finer bite indicator on still water, for whatever species, surely?

Important factor, you can't sleep, or watch TV whilst float fishing, I forgot , sorry.

Peter, I don't ledger cos I'm lazy. I ledger cos it's a way i know I can catch!

I actually have an amazing selection of floats, but never been taught how to use them. Probably the point of my post, is, are there loads of young ones out there in the same boat? I think I have to perservere with floating and teach myself. Obviously from the replys I am missing out

a fish,a fish, my kingdom for a fish

I couldn't agree more. Don't forget long trotting at rivers tho. Fantastic fun.

Tommo where do you live? I would gladly meet up for a float fishing session with ya. I'm sure you could teach me a thing or two about legering too :)

Whilst I agree that float fishing can be more fun, it can often catch you more than ledgering. This applies to whatever size of fish you're after. Of course on other days the reverse is true.

Tommo, you won't regret learning to float fish!

A question for you float gurus - do you ever use a float for suspending a bait mid-water?

Frequently - contrary to popular belief big fish aren't always on the bottom. For instance my PB perch was caught on the float in midwater.

Nothing like seeing the float slide away... :)

Absolutely. Seeing that float twitch and dip then disappear is to me what fishing is all about.

That's no doubt why I'm still waiting for my double figure carp  While everyone else is pulling out clonkers on floating crust or dog biscuits, I'm concentrating on that little red tip hoping it will lift or dive away. One day, I'll show 'em..... :P:P
