Aussie Flash Flood

Recommended Posts

Very scary. My sister-in-law and family live just above the Brisbane river beween Toowoomba and Brisbane.

The expected flood surge is 19 m above normal. By my reckoning their house is just about 60' above the river so it will be a close call for them.

We are awaiting a reply to our last email.

Try their mobiles Dave, the power might be down for the PC.

I can imagine how you are feeling, you may remember my anguish when the Tsunami struck Puquet. The two chinese girls who worked for my son were never found.

fingers crossed for you.

Cheers Den. by "email" I really meant "email or any other means of communication"

We now learn (via mobile) the family are staying with in-laws on higher ground. The phrase they used was "self-evacuation" which sounds typically Australian.

Whether the floods actually reached their home we don't know yet - probably not as the peak was about a metre less than feared. Their particular enclave is cut off at present.

Just heard that a small town on the Qld/NSW border, Goondiwindi, is about to go under water. The levee is 0.15 metres above the river height and the river is still rising...

Er...And 3 cyclones, 1 off WA 1 out in the Coral Sea (Norfolk Island has warnings) and 1 north east of Cooktown :(
