Got myself well organised one evening for an early morning start.

I wanted to put a sleeper rod out for a carp as soon as I got to the lake so had a ready tied trace complete with bait all ready to attatch when I arrived.

Arrived in the half light,put the carp rod together and cast to some overhanging bushes. Dropped a few baits around and got on with my proper fishing.

After about 4 hours thought I should check the bait on the carp rod.

Wound in only to find the small peice of cork I had put on the hookpoint to protect it still there. Good job I did'nt get a screamer.

Once went fishing and forgot the rod :rolleyes:

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

One of my dumbest ideas was to freeze fish chunks in ice so I could loose feed them at range via a catapult. The idea was sound in the added weight made getting distance easy. However once I put the bins to my eyes to take a look at the spot I noticed that little mini icebergs were floating away from the area I wanted to bait.

 

Maybe I should have paid more attention in Physics at school :D

I did the same many, many years ago with some frozen hemp - froze it off with rather too much water - still a block of ice when I got to the river - threw the whole lot in in one go thinking I'd have an instant bed of hemp in my chosen swim - horrified to see it float off downstream! :rolleyes:

Forgotten banksticks, lures, reels, leads, bait, fags/lighter, my wits. Sat on an open bottle of smelt oil.....who knows? I've been fishing for long enough to know that I've made enough mistakes to have learned by now. Yea right. I'll do them again.

I took up angling..............could have bought some nice cars/bikes with all that money! :P

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!
