Coppers Take Lad Fishing

Well that's good. Shame you had to go to as far as jail to realise that though.

By the way, you do have swollen knuckles. Dragging them around for as long as you have will do that....

Maybe the officers, probation people escorting this feral youth were trying to get him hooked on this great sport of ours, one which takes kids off the street for hours, days, weeks.

If there was only a 1% chance of success then it was worth a try. I believe there is a sport for everyone, its just a matter of finding the one that "clicks".

Its all very good people saying he needs a good sharp shock to the system but they dont have to live near this boy, he's probably a nightmare in his community causing all sorts of problems.

Maybe the opinions of his neighbours carry more weight than ours ;)

Also the picture taken does nobody any favours either as it was obviously chosen to show the boy looking bored yet he was probably just watching his float and had not long put the rod down. He was not as bored as the PCSO's who were more interested in texting on their phones.

Putting people in jail is the last resort.

There's no reason any of us have to fall out over it, and this kind of emotive response is what the papers want and why they publish stuff like this in the first place. Let's not give them the pleasure and let's not fall for it.

I'm not even saying that schemes like this are a good idea. What I'm saying is that we know absolutely nothing about it, and are therefore not qualified to have a worthwhile opinion.

Given all the facts I am just as likely to condemn it as applaud it.

Two totally opposite camps of opinion here............and I'm stuck in the middle! Well regarding the rights or wrongs of taking someone fishing who has done wrong in the hope of "rehabilitating" them at least.I'm just not sure.

What I am sure of though is why the story was put over in such a poor light. The whole thing (if you look at what facts are given and what ones are carefully chosen for omission and I may go as far to say "and what has been suggested") has been done clearly (as Anderoo initially suggested) "89 words designed to make builders angry" (for "builders" you can insert any of the trades used to describe the papers demographic). And why?

Cause as our American friend says in the video it is simply what these people want to "buy in to" and sells the rag!

A bit like cormorants,Eastern Europeans etc etc in the Angling rags. And Eastenders on the Beeb!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

ok time for some facts ,sorry had a bit to catch up with on this ,this is a scheme run by my club i do know what i am talking about ,anderoo (sorry if spelt wrong ) thanks for saying this was non story you are right ,

not seen in the picture were other children that were being coached by volenteers ,the pcso having delivered the children ,and they are not coaches, are catching up on text updates on a fatality, down the road, and trying to see if they were needed to attend .

we have run the scheme for 4 years ,they are not bad lads just kids in a poor situation .most of their parents have issues and sometimes this is the only time they get to be away from that .

so far we have a 86% sucess rate in kids completing the course and not getting into trouble ,some have gone on to continue fishing some have not .this is a good news story in my opinion for angling and we are contacting the press to get the story corrected watch out for those stories next week .

if anyones has any questions please either drop me a mail or post on here i will try to get back when i can . cheers big al

Why do you have to spoil a good story with facts Al? Now what are people going to moan about? ;)

Thanks for clearing that up, keep up the good work mate, 86% looks a decent result to me.

I bet when/if the papers retract their version of the story, it doesn't get the same coverage as this one.

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

your right ,but we don't worry too much about that

.

can you believe that the parents send them out without anything to eat for the day ,no breakfast off you go ,what parent could do that .have to arrange food now .

we should get some good coverage in the angling press ,and maybe an apology from an mp that would be worth the hassle .would love to have a go at alan brazil on talk sport who spouted off about it ,he grew up in glasgow so should know better .heh ho .

Well, there we have it. Thanks for that Al, and a big well done from me

Just think how this story could have been reported. Sad isn't it? Even so, people really ought to be able to see these kinds of stories in light of a media agenda and wonder what was going on outside the frame of the one photo selected for publication.

So given a few facts I wonder how many are willing to change their minds and applaud Al and his club for offering kids from deprived backgrounds the chance to get a bit of space and do a bit of fishing?
