Dont forget Dick Walker's record carp 'Clarissa' was the star of the aquarium at London Zoo for many years. It gave kids like me a chance to see a fish that I'd never even dream of catching.

I'm sure cabelas will look after this big cat in pretty much the same way. They could have killed it and mounted it instead. At least they now have the option of releasing it one day.

I always thought that the Thames was a big relatively unfished river. Wait until you see the Mississippi. I bet that there's even bigger catfish to come.

DJMCJERICO:

Its so that nobody else can catch it and break his record

Half hour my ass demon

Firstly I don't think that the Americans really want to catch fish that have been caught so often they are known by name. Most will be quite happy to see it in an aquarium where it can be an inspiration.

Secondly I have to ask what your remark concerning the half hour means? Sounds a perfectly reasonable time for a fish of that size to me. I have had plenty of hard fighting fish bigger than that take half an hour and even longer.

Half an hour in open water is a Great catch. If the fisherman had been on land, it may have been a different story. He was able to follow the fish and let it get tired out. We caught a Wels that was 2.3 meters long and weighed 108lb. from shore and it took 20 minutes. The fact that it could not immediately get back into the main current flow of the river made this a possibility. The old levee created a barrier that it was not able to immediately breach. It still ran back and forth trying to locate an exit. At the end, Darren and the fish were spent.
