LIGHT AT NIGHT

Can anyone recommend a lantern/torch/bivvy light that gives off a lot of light? I tend to night fish a lot more now than in recent years and need something that gives off a bit more light for inside the bivvy and the adjacent area outside. Any advice would be grateful.

i`d advise you not to use one at all not only will you lose your night vision but more importantly could spoil other anglers , best is a headlight although you will find you will be able to "fight" fish completly in the dark and only need the light for landing and unhooking also the shadow as your move across the light will probably spook the fish and encourage ducks and swans for a free feed and fill your bivvie with moths etc :)

Chesters is right about trying not to use a lamp.

All i use is one of the new L.E.D headlaps, But if you really need a larger lamp and more light get one of those flouresent tube battery lamps, much much safer than petrol or gas and take my word for it never use a petrol lap in a bivvy Very nasty it was

I use a Coleman Northstar for night fishing, turns night into day on full power. I turn it right down when fishing but turn it up when baiting up, rig tying and for lighting up a feature prior to casting. It runs on unleaded petrol and a fill will last 8hrs on full power so very ecconomical. If you go for one of these be sure to shop around for the best price as they can vary from £99 to what I paid £59.

I'd also echo the comments above about not setting it up in a bivvy, not worth the risk.

p.s. it's great for spotting them horrible slugs before they get to close.....YUK! :P

If you can get a red filter for the light your night vision won't be affected.

I have a little 3 LED headlamp with a red filter and love it. Plenty of light right where I want it and almost none elsewhere. If I ever need more light to navigate a path or something, the filter comes off easily and there is then a nice beam of white light.

The one I use clips to the bill of a baseball cap and is easily moved over the top of the bill when not in use or quickly down into position when I need to re-rig or land a fish. Weighs almost nothing.

I also carry a 2 million candle power lamp for navigating back to the launch ramp or for shining on the rude idiots that like to flash lights around. They usually get the hint pretty quickly. But it only gets about 25 minutes of burn time on a single battery charge so would be useless for area lighting over a long period.

My fishing partner often float fishes at night with a torch beam focused directly on to his float. I have seen him catch plenty of carp and other species with this method. He swears that a patch of light on the water can sometimes act as an extra attractor to curious patroling carp.

My quote "turns night into day on full power" was an example of how bright the lamp is.

The purpose of night fishing is to benefit from the productive "dusk 'til dawn" period,it is also quieter with no boat traffic.

Try a branch of Millets,

They have a led torch which also can be used as a lantern when you pull the sleeve down.

It is about 4" long, made of strong aluminium and uses 4xAAA batteries which last for over 100 hrs.

When you use it as a torch , try not to look at the bulb as it is very bright to say the least!!
