Oddly my favourite chair at the moment is one of those cheep camping fold up chairs that collapse and go in a bag. The sort of thing sold for around £8 in supermarkets. You need flat ground to use it but it works in most situations and even has a holder for your drink and takes a few seconds to open and close with no messing around with those revolving locking twisty things. A good chair to have when you want to stay right up to chucking out time at a day ticket venue and folds down in seconds. A simple deck chair also ticks the same boxs, why do so many fishing chairs generaly require time to sort out simply to use them.

 

So two other suggestions.

 

Quick to put up and close down

 

And be cheap if it is seen as a viable product to take to market.

Dales i used to use those sort of chairs but gave up on them ,my fishing partner always grabbed it before i got a chance to sit in it

It depends why you're reeling... If I'm 'reeling' in my line, then I usually stand up anyway, when I'm 'reeling' drunk however, I don't much care... :P

On the subject of weight, has anyone considered the use of modern plastics or the various materials such as used in F1 cars. I realise that there may be a cost with some of the more exotic materials. Also I would like legs not only with mud feet, but extendable spikes such as found on shooting sticks to stop slipping on sloping banks.

 

On the subject of market research, look at things like the Ford Capri or the iPod. They created a market by being different, but of course this avenue is always a risk, ask DeLorean :lol:

The best fishing "chair" I have ever had was one of these-

"obtained" whilst I was serving and only "died" when a friend (who was a lot lighter than me!) sat on it out in Spain and ripped the canvas finally beyond repair!

 

Perfect height (more important as you get older/fatter/unfitter as getting out of some of the "low" chairs quickly is a nightmare!) Comfortable (good back support and arms so you can have a "snooze" without falling out/off) very light,very cheap (even if you have to buy one they are under a fiver!) last for ages even if you are over 20 stone!

 

Only fault (or more accurately room for improvement) is that the legs are not adjustable (so you cant get it easily level on rough ground and tends to "slide" as Chesters says on slopes).

However (if still available) that could easily be remedied by using those add on adjustable legs you used to be able to get for sun loungers in the old days of carping.

 

So what do you reckon Akoo?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

I too like that chair. Very traditional as well as functional. I always get "that one" because it has more surface on the ground. The legs don't dig in. Coleman has one with feet as well as the cross bottom but it weighs 7 - 10 lbs I'd guess. You're right, the higher and straighter the better.

Why don't you design BUDGIES chair out of carbon composites with a scissor fold horzontially and a double 90 degree fold vertically. It will fit into a carryall or sholder strap bag nicely.

I rather like Budgies chair, sometimes simple is best. It is so easy to over engineer things and as anglers we are worse then most.

 

What do you need to fish? A piece of bait a hook to put it on a length of line, just think how far we have over engineered from that concept :D
