Sad state of specimen carp fishing

Den, I have no problem with face to face good old anglo saxon. If offence was intended then it certainly wasn't taken!

There have been some excellent replies. I really don't mind what the species is, but I would still contend that there is something less than special in chasing after a known 30 pound pike, or a sixty pound carp for that matter, in the hope that it has but on a few ounces or pounds since its last capture.

It is almost as if, especially in the carp world, that anglers are taking their turn, even queuing up to hold the record.

Okay, so you catch this fish, is it worth claiming it as a record? Basically no! By the time the claim has been ratified it is fairly certain the same fish will have come out again and you've lost the record. That just reduces the value of the event as I see it, and I think that is sad.

I just find the concept of an angler reading that so and so fish has just been caught at X ammount of pounds and saying 'whoopeee, my turn next', or words to that effect, is incredibly shallow. But angling is all things to all men.

In this shrinking island of ours repeat captures are inevitable, I have no problem with that. But these pre-packaged 'records' hold no real value for me, sorry!!

Was Two Tone introduced to its present water as a speciman? The concept of buying in instant 'success' for their customers is also a concept that I find alien to my idea of 'angling'.

It is a pity that the thread title included the word 'carp' because it is a modern day angling thing.

I'm sorry but sat in a tent all night with a set line out is not what I call angling. If it turns one on then go for it, but it is not for me.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.
Vaut mieux ne rien dire et passer pour un con que de parler et prouver que t'en est un!

On behalf of the Fish Republican Movement ......Fish live in a democracy. Fish should be free to choose too..........

Most of the time fish choose not to take an anglers bait.

Are you an angler or a member of PETA or the likes?

Different floats for different folks!

Dear All,

Hurrah and massive cheers for Dennis Darkin and carp fishing mega god Terry. Then another round of hooray’s for Rob when he came in.

Boohoo Hiiisss to Pete Waller and his crew.

So Two Tone's been caught again? Bait still works then!!!

What a crying shame. Same big roach have been caught again on the Hampshire Avon and Stour. Same old chub as well. Well blow me down!! That same big pike on the broads has come out again. My word. So's another on that Fenland drain. What about those big tench coming out again from those same six lakes?? Then there’s those big Norfolk bream and don't forget those big bream from Leicestershire. Blimey!! Those barbel in the Severn and Trent are getting very big. Must keep our eyes on them in case they get near as big as those in the Ouse. Don't want them getting recaptured even though they are getting recaptured most weeks at lesser weights already.

Crumbs chaps. Give yourselves a talking too why don't you? Fish get caught then re-caught all of the time. All species, all sizes from dainty ounces to hefty pounds. So what makes a fish with a stupid name any different? Pure jealousy or just plain bloody mindedness. Why the need for this constant sniping as soon as someone catches a big fish?

Let’s rejoice in either the fellow’s good luck or admired skill when these big fish come out. It is after all, what forms the absolute basis for specialist angling no matter what species are being fished for after all?

Regards,

Lee.

carp fishing mega god Terry.

Tragically, Lee, I'm entirely the wrong Terry.

But I do know him and I go round his house an' everyfin'. Does that count? :D

And on the eighth day God created carp fishing...and he saw that it was pukka.

I'm sorry but sat in a tent all night with a set line out is not what I call angling.

Anything can be downgraded by that sort of summary, though, mate.

'Sitting watching a float all day, hoping a maggot does the work of enticing a fish for me'

'Holding a dirty great pole all day to catch a pair of eyeballs'

'Trundling Spam down a river for hours.'

'Lobbing out a feeder for snotty fish that don't even fight.'

'Hoiking out lures made by someone else and claiming the credit when a dopey pike grabs one.'

As I said, it's all utter cobblers but I bet the narrow-minded out there will agree with all of them - apart from the one that misrepresents THEIR preferred type of angling.

The fact that anglers DO enjoy their chosen pursuits is all the validation required, surely?
