Glass for Tanks

Hi all

Are there any types of glass that can poisin fish? I know it sounds like a dumb question, but I can get glass panneling at a good price from Here.

I am just a bit worried about going through a huge mission, only to find out it was for nothing. I know this is probley the wrong place to ask this type of question but nobody can help me.

Thanks

Rusty

The basic answer to that is No, the glass you buy will not poison fish.

However, some glass is not going to be any good for building tanks for the fish or things like that so it would help to have an idea what you had in mind.

There is a special silicon adhesive for fish tanks, I used it once to fix a leak in my glass houdini hatch. It is a bit more expensive than the other silicon tubes but wont poison the fish if you cure it per the instructions that come with it.

As Rob and Hugh said, use silicon sealant (available at all good aquarists) to stick the glass together, and make sure the glass is of the correct thickness for the size of tank - normal window glass will not work for anything but the smallest tanks. Also glue a strengthener (a piece of glass almost as long as the tank and about 1 1/2" wide) along both front and back glasses, about 1" from the top.

Anything else you want to know, just ask :)

It is cheaper and easier in the long run.

I was going to build a tank but bought one instead.

DO NOT USE any other silicon sealer than stuff purchased from a aquarist shop if you do build.

Other stuff contains and anti fungal chemical that is to stop it moulding, IT KILLS FISH and marine plants.
