As per another thread just picked up 2nd hand rod with cork handle - still in wrapping.

 

I just never understand why anglers buy a rod with a cork handle and leave the wrapping on, may as well buy one with duplon.

My personal choice is to unwrap as I love the warm comfortable feel of cork and the grip it gives, still have 20 year old plus rods with unwrapped cork (at time of buying) and all the cork has ever needed is a clean.

 

Whats your preferance / view on cork - to take off plastic wrapping or leave it on?

I usually leave it on, since you only hold the duplon front grip and reel seat and it makes them easier to sell if you decide to flog them at a later date.

It comes off straight away. I like the feel of the cork and am not to bothered if they get dirty.

I prefer cork to EVA and the wrapping comes off.

For really heavy duty fishing (not coarse) EVA has some advantages over cork though as it's less prone to getting slippy and it moulds to the shape of your hand for improved grip.

Can't see any point in a cork handle with a plastic wrap on it, cork cleans up easy enough when it gets dirty and just feels better.

I'm going to send you a couple of my cork handles to "clean up easy". Good old carp paste doughbaits caked into a moulded weird ceramic shapes. Still I like to ruin the cork for myself. I guess a good soaking would help.

 

My stuff is meant to be worn out in my lifetime under my ownership. (in otherwords, I trash quite good equipment - my bad)

I leave mine on just cos I like the colour of fresh new cork and if I take it off it will get caked in groundbait I have had some cork rods for years and still have the wrap on the handles - lol

It's not a proper rod until you have the cork handles caked in Bream snot and groundbait and a few nicks and bumps in the handle.

 

I reckon you lot that keep the handle wrapped up are a bunch of plastic, rubber and PVC gimp wearing numpties who just like the feel of the plastic in your hand. I bet you even wear washing up gloves while mixing your ground bait and line your bivy with one of those big rubber sheets they use for catfish in europe.

 

You bunch of perverts :D
