Sounds good as well! Is it expensive Ant?

Hi Budgie,

Sorry about the late reply mate. Not been on here for a couple of weeks.

It cost £36 for the day. This was for, what I thought, a 3 man boat but have now discovered that all the boats are the same size so paid the extra for nothing. I know the lake can be very patchy so trying not to get my hopes too high but it looks such a beautiful late that I can't help but get excited :)

Yeh right, went and had a look at the local river today, and whereas last week I could have walked across most swims and not got my knees wet the water is higher than i've ever seen it, all the surrounding fields are flooded and when I went in with my strimmer to clear some of the nettles back the water in the fields was going over my wellies. I want the wet weather to stop now and then it should be perfect come Saturday :D

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

Went to my first day venue for a final recce yesterday only to find that a working party had already cleared access to most of the (few) swims. Having lugged the strimmer all the way there I cleared access to a couple of spots they hadn’t done. Got covered in crap but it was great fun being able to unleash the beast without annoying neighbours.

The good news is that the river is still looking very good with decent levels and a strong flow. I usually ‘park’ my gear on a small gravely area which has always been dry when I’ve fished this swim previously….now it’s under 4 inches of water.

I know the rain in recent months has caused major problems in other parts of the country but from a purely selfish point of view I reckon it might have saved the Kennet this year.

Well, I think my chances of getting out on the Severn next weekend are down to zero. Not only is the river high and coloured now as can be seen on the webcam, but there is a further half a meter bulge of flood water that has yet to get here.

Looks like a trip to the Stour for me.
