A sense of urgency - getting ready to move inland

I certainly will Andy.

Based on the latest tracking information, this will be a good place not to be come Monday or Tuesday. It's pretty rural here and I doubt if many of the locals will leave with only a Cat1 storm predicted but Caravans don't like even that much rain & wind.

If you look at the photo in the top post, it gives current info since it links to a weather site.

Newt,

Look on the bright side. It no doubt lit a fire under your git-up - and surely everyone knows the area you're leaving can use the rain. Just put a whip to them old Ford horses.

It did indeed motivate me to get ready to go way faster than I otherwise would have. A whole bunch of things I might have tried to get "just so" went to "it will do for now". If they can travel without damage and without shifting, they are good enough.

All of that said and in spite of that pretty "predicted track", we really won't know until Isaac exits Cuba how strong it will get or where it will go. However, if it remains a large storm, the exact track won't matter as much as with a smaller and more tightly organized hurricane. Plenty of wind and water for everyone in the general area.

This will be the first hurricane/tropical storm to move through this area in a few years and the entire ecology here is dependent on rain from one or two of these every couple of years. I wouldn't expect significant damage since we have a good levee system here and very few idiots living in flood prone areas. 70-90 mph winds will bring down quite a few trees but they are ones that needed pruning anyway and 10-12 inches of rain will actually be a good thing. The soil here is very sandy so the water will soak in fairly quickly. If I lived in a house (with no pine trees really close to the house) I'd just sit back and watch the fun. As it is, I'll gladly run away. :D :D

At last I understand the expression "getting the wind up" :)

Have a good journey Newt,

as we are over on the Gulf coast in tree weeks.

The trees that are marginal should be pretty well pruned by Isaac. :D

In any event, hopefully things will be calmer for your visit although all one this size will do to a resort area is make it windy and wet for a couple of days and mess up the fishing for a few days.

I'm delaying my departure until Sunday. No fool like an old fool and this one spent too much time outside in the heat yesterday getting ready to leave. I'll laze around today, hook up this evening, and be ready to go earlyish tomorrow.

This is going to be a seriously wet storm.

From Dr. Jeff Master's weather blog

Predicted precipitation for the 8-day period from 2 am Saturday August 25 to 2 am Sunday September 2, from the 2 am EDT August 25 run of the GFS model. This model is predicting a wide swath of 5 - 10 inches of rain (orange colors) will affect portions of Cuba, Florida, the Bahamas, and the Southeast U.S. Image credit: NOAA/NCEP.

My next door neighbor (the white truck) and I are both ready to hook up and leave in the morning - should take about 30-40 minutes to get the slides retracted, get the lines unhooked, and be ready to go. He's headed a couple hundred miles north and will be back here after the storm passes.
