Aylesbury:1 is in the basement of Jakeman sports in town centre, 2 is Aylesbury Angling Centre, Duck Farm Court (near Safeway), 3 is J&K Tackle in Bicester. All are worth a visit if you're in the area!

You meet all kinds of animal on the riverbank.

I'm just looking for a shop that can see beyond carp. That keep the pike softbaits on the pike wall and not the sea angling wall because they thought they were for catching cod, that have a load of staff who are going to serve me and not spend their time rushing up and down the shop apparently going nowhere and doing nothing useful, that doesnt have two or three resident locals leaning on the counter, blocking access to the cashier and swapping stories with the owner about the last time they caught 'ol one eye' and amongst the large numbers of staff (none of whom appear to be older than 14)there is at least one that understands just a little bit about the pike and fly fishing gear they have for sale. Thats all I want. Until then internet shopping does for me.

I live in the North East part of our metropolis and, until two years ago, had four shops within a couple of miles of me. Now there's only two and one of them is a bit 'out of date' to say the least. Dust on most of what's left of the items on display and not a great selection of anything really. The other one, although further away out in 'white stilleto county'is outstanding. Loads of choice of everything, including Sea tackle and fresh bait delivered every other day. It's a shame really because I'm sure if someone had the brains and the money they could open a fair sized shop in town and make a killing.

i look for a tackle shop that, Offers honest advice, Takes on board your comments, has a wide range of stuff, not just Carp and the major brands, do all their repairs in store where public can see and can cater for my sea and coarse needs.

As it happens i got one just like down the road from me owned by peter owen another a few miles owned by steve Allmark (both England international sea fishermen)

With most of my kit being purchaced aboard or over the net, about the only regular thing that I buy in tackle shops are my licences. That said, I do like a mouch for some forgotten gem.

Despite years of cutthroat competition and the encroachment of on-line shopping, half the shops in the midlands should have gone out of business years ago. They're either grubby little holes like the one owned by a gentleman on the banks of the Severn or they are staffed and/or owned by people who would rather carry on a conversation with their mates than serve the bloke that's just walked in the door. I can think of several in the latter category but one with it's own line of carpie gear with shiney lables springs to mind.

The one shop that I'm always happy to patronise for my bits and pieces (swivels, wire, hooks ets) is Mal Storey's place in Kidderminster. To date, I've had nothing but good service.

I stopped using one shop because the bloke that runs it, does not, or has ever fished.

I've fished all my life from being 12. I first used that shop when this blokes wife's grandfather started the business. Her father then continued with it and was a very nice bloke, who you could talk to. When he died, she took it over with her husband.

The bloke's a Noddy!

When I asked how old are these maggots, he said fresh this morning. When I do my first run off of casters, what do I get? Blackfly! Blackfly if there are any present in a batch ALWAYS are the last to turn. He's tipped the back end of last weeks batch in with the new. When you tackle him about it, he denies it.

Time after time I've tripped him up with my vast experience versus his none and prefer to use the shop 2 miles out of town where all the proper anglers go. It would be a goldmine but for him.

I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness I can show to any fellow - creature, let me do it now, let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.

Hi, I use a small local tackle shop where all the staff are knowledgeable, they have a big fish specialist and a match angler so most aspects are covered. You an ask a question regarding a particular issue and somebody will have a solution.

I am prepared to pay a premium to buy locally rather than mail order etc. I feel that you must support your local tackle shop – if they go out of business where will you go if you need a single packet of hooks at short notice, or a couple of pints of maggots?

My six local tackleshops are fine, if you match fish, fish for carp or are just beginning. Non of them cater for the obsessive carp specialist or tackle tart, and they certainly don't cater for other than the not so keen pikers who only use deadbaits. They stock proven, safe lines. Even if they did cater for the specialist it's doubtful that they would sell enough gear to warrent stocking it. Not by choice it means travelling or mail order for me.
