I wish you all joy in your angling.

That's what it should all be about for pleasure anglers - to fish the places you like with gear you enjoy using.

I'm sure I'm not alone in that my first reel was an Intrepid (Black Prince). I still have it somewhere in the house along with a Prince Regent I replaced it with. Simpler times when your rod was tied to the crossbar of your bike, and everything else carried in a plastic bag hanging from the handlebars.

It's nice to wallow in nostalgia for a while. Remember the days when finding a float doubled your collection? Or when it didn't matter how far you had to walk because you had next to nowt to carry. Good friends and great times.

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed."

Chesters1, I have 3 different Prince regents well the only difference is the stickers on them the reels are identical, is this different model years?

Any idea what years they may be?

The red or black paper ,lbles are the original morritt versions the square gold ones when gladding took over, theres subtle design changes on all the reels ,no doubt when enough broken ones with the same fault appeared to be repaired, ,

His first fixed spool was actually recalled and melted down to form the mark 2 ,theres a few about still thoug

If a reel didnt sell well its box was changed to give the impression it was a better reel and ofcourse when a reel was introduced display boxes were used then cheap versions to save money

And ofcourse gladding reboxed the remaining morritt versions into their boxes

The paper labled version will be 69 to 70 the gold square lables until 1980 as it wasa long lived reel

One of his early reels had their boxes outsourced they actually cost more than the reels! He then decided to produce everything possible in house to keep cost down

Do you sell spares for these reels Chesters? My first rod I’ve restored and I still have my first reel, a red labelled Prince Regent. The folding handle broke and it’d be great if I could get a replacement. The folding bit with the clip is plastic (some were alloy I think) and the handle itself was flat rather than round like the Black Prince, I always thought that made it a much classier reel.

Would you be able to help me out in exchange for your fave tipple? It would be much appreciated.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back
