Please help, researching/looking for land owners.

With the help of an eyewitness(!) I've managed to locate, within an acre or two, the crash site of a Hurricane during WW2, but how do I go about finding out who actually owns the land (now) that it crashed on?

Can it be done on-line?

Please help.

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

If you can't find out on line the easiest thing would be to plot where the posistion is on an OS map & then ask the local council.

If you do find it & theres a "boss" lying around i'll have it off you mate

a few years ago i got permission to metal detect on a large farm (it was my boss`e friend) the owner said a aircraft was supposed to have crashed there in the war ,i said i`d have a look but usually all traces were usually removed after the crash (although i did go out with a recovery group working on romney marsh where the aircraft were usually 20ft down ) the owner pointed out the woods where it had supposed to have crashed and on closer inspection a definate crash path could be made out (a line of snapped off tree`s that had regrown at the top) there was a couple of grassed over holes so i started there ,there was a mass of signals all of them bullet cases and all of them split or empty (i presumed the aicraft had caught fire )later proved right ,i also found an engine plate with the numbers intact (it was a german plate) and several hundred pieces of melted alloy .there was no sign of any large signals so we presumed any large pieces had been removed unless ofcourse they were a long way down but this was unlikely due to the shallow angle of the crash ,good luck with your search but dont expect any thinglarge that may resemble an aircraft.

As a prop manager for a Gov department I was approached a couple of years ago by a guy that wanted to do what you want to do but he had to get a licence from the MOD cos some of these crash sites are effectively war graves.

The Land registry will be able, for a fee, to be able to tell you who owns it if its registered, if its not then its door knocking im afraid, mind you the local village post office if there is one usually has some one behind the counter that knows everything about every one!

Good Luck

Can I have the engine if its any good?!

Look on the map for the nearest farmhouses then knock on the door or drop them a line.

Failing that, either hold an illegal rave or invite some of your 'traveller' friends over for a party - the owner will be there in minutes :D

LOL! :D

All,

I've been door knocking and the only farmer that knows anything pointed to a field, but didn't know the owner. And there are a lot of farm houses in that area.

I don't want to disturb the remains of the aircraft, all I want is something that can confirm that it is what I'm looking for so I can plot the exact position. With any luck I hope to find suface debri from ploughing for confirmation.

The reason, once found I can then continue with corralating(sp?) paper work of this incident for future references, mainly for living relatives.

Well - if you are willing to pay a fee, looks like This Site is the place to inquire.
