I've not read them either Peter, but from what I've heard, there's not much fishing in them.

Is he really as good a writer as some folk would have us believe? I've read several of his books and, to be quite honest, they were a bit of a struggle. Granted that he is something of a character and a legend but his books leave me cold. Okay, so I'm a Philistine!

 

No not a philistine. I think he's relatively good - very readable compared to many fishing writers, but compared to the good writers in the wider world, on the light side in my view. Some of his writings are better than others. Some in certain quarters will brook no criticism; he is certainly a cult figure to some these days, though hopefully not a god.

Well my copy arrived just before Christmas. Not read it yet - though did have a quick look in the back to check my name was there!

Nor i (but seen the films) got several hundred angling books but read none of those either ,i just like things in places ,shelves ,boxes wherever ,the mrs puts things in bags ,funny old world !

Not sure i like other peoples opinions on things ,never watch angling progs either and only just stomached a passion for angling it was syrupy stuff

I have had some real rare "classics" over the years but sold them without reading them ,unfortunately all the enthusiasm for anything i once had has gone ,perhaps the slow run down to death although vagabond seemingly still has his
