Dornier 17 aircraft in channel

I think they may have lifted that plane. Saw the platform being towed away about 2pm today.

It was due to take a few weeks, I thought.

Maybe they have given up it was flat calm yesterday and today, so perhaps it all went well? Or..................it is possible that they weren't actually anything to do with the lifting and what we have been watching over the weekend had nothing to do with that plane.

Was it not recently they thought half a dozen spitfires were buried in the desert somewhere but they found nothing?

 

It does beg a big moral question and that is if only a few died is it still a grave as much as a thousand on the Titanic or hundreds on HMS Hood?

Is it that's a military vessel it's accepted? A human is a human in a grave and nothing more..

Yes and the press were talking about possibly 90 odd....suprise suprise none were found much to the relief of private owners of spits the world over i would imagine .

Dave regarding the Ruskies and USA outproducing the Germans tank wise with inferior tanks but ultimately quantity beating quality ever thought they should have swapped tp producing more mk4 panzers with the excelent lone barelled high veloc 75 instead of the expensive and far more time consuming panzer 5 and Tigers may have helped stem the tide better ie they would have had many more tanks and as a bonus ones that could take out other tanks at long range and didn`t break down every 2 miles/drink eleventy nine gallons per mile?

Chap in the 70's i fished with worked for folkestone salvage and they found a sub in the channel (how true this is i can only comment on what he told me ),they welded an air lock to the conning tower then cut through to gain entrance. He said everything was imaculate inside but unfortunately already full of its german residents so had to be left well alone as it became a war grave.

As i said its what he told me he could well have been joshing but its all feasible.

Not sure what the criteria is to become a war grave if it were just bodies most of northern france and brussles would be devoid of agriculture

errr, not quite yet. also looks a bit dodgy where the plan has been altered. hopefully not too much will drop off on the lift.
