Should we join forces with the Countryside Alliance?

Dear Peter,

You said;

"I don't have a problem with killing for a sound and acceptable reason Den, but I do have a problem with killing simply for pleasure though."

Oower. I recall you saying that you didn't have a problem with angling uniting with shooting?

Just for personal clarification;

I don't have any problem whatsoever in killing for sport. None.

When I used to shoot I killed tens of thousands of pigeons, thousands of rabbits, hundreds of hares, hundreds of ducks, hundreds of geese, hundreds of pheasants, hundreds of partridges and just about everything else that ran, flew, hopped, skipped or jumped. I "must" have shot these creatures for sport as I can't ever recall eating that lot!! Shooters don't do politically correct. They shoot because it’s their right and they enjoy it. Good enough reason then for Blair’s party to begin banning it.

Are you now trying to manoeuvre all shooters towards a "fictional" shoot to eat only classification Peter? Laying the ground for a further Countryside Alliance none appreciation society now the fox hunting thorn's been dulled by any chance?

Regards,

Lee.

Vagabond, I'm not sure that I have ever suggested that angling and shooting are other than hunting.

Peter I AM sure I did not say you had - read my post again.

Its the perception of others outside angling we have to address.

As I see it this sort of attidude is the only threat to angling and why the majority of anglers deplore the idea of joining forces with the CA.

Anti I presume?

If you mean anti-bigoted reactionary right-wingers who want to drag angling down into the foxhunting gutter, then yes, I must be an anti.

I told you once, and I'll tell you again: you'll get a much more balanced perspective if you removed your head from your anus once in a while.

No no.. don't thank me.

Why Anthony ? because Trent Barbeler didnt eat them all? Rest assured that with the exception of those creatures classed as vermin, a large number of other people no doubt scoffed the lot through local game butchers or the gamekeepers unoffical 'shop' where this stuff usually ends up. At that point its just meat. no different to a piece of beef or lamb or a chicken. Unless you can see a difference between wringing a chickens neck and shooting a duck. Personally I can't.

I was unaware that we had taken a head count. what I am aware of, is that right now the majority of anglers dont appear to want to join ANY of the myriad of organisations that claim to represent them. I'm also aware that a lot of anglers who at the beginning of this government's anti-hunt crusade were supportive of the poor old fox, are now wondering whether strategically that was such agood idea in view of the rumblings about angling being next on the list. Or would you give up fishing if it helped to save foxes ?

Dear Ant,

Hogwash. If you indeed spoke for the angling majority you might possibly be surprised to learn that the majority of anglers might not give a hoot about the CA. They perhaps don't even know the first thing about who's supposed to be representing them never mind the name they might stand behind! Understandable seeing as our mob changes their name so often!

I tell things from my experiences how it is. Not how you might want to hear it. I shot for sport when I did shoot. Who cares?

I catch fish because I enjoy it. So what?

The Countryside Alliance is cool man. Thousands of anglers have joined them. So they must all be wrong and you must be right eh Ant?

Don't think so matey.

Regards,

Lee. Anti-anti.

So what about the millions of anglers who havn't joined the CA?

I never said I was right, but I do happen to have a personal opinion on the subject.
