Prefabricated houses

Recommended Posts

I'm just guessing, but I'd guess that there is not one metal bolt, screw or nail in those roofs. I know that we have at least some carpenters left who can do this kind of work in England. I used to commute over the Channel every weekend with a Cornish chap who had worked on the roof of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and on the roof of some of the buildings on the Mont Saint Michel too. You don't get work on French heritage sites unless you are top notch.

We currently have aerothermie (air source to water) linked to underfloor heating which suits the lower water temps better than radiators.

The only problem with it is a lack of controllability, You can't turn it up or down as you need it, It tends to run 24 hrs a day from November to March.

Putting it into a new build with underfloor heating is the way to go.

Sportsman your right about underfloor being the way to go. Some of my neighbours have the air source heating with radiators and thats fully controllable.

Yes, it's not the aerothermie that is not controllable it is the underfloor element.

It takes so long to heat up and cool down it is better just to leave it on.

Cory

I in no way meant to suggest that French artisans were not good at what they do, just that they are exactly what I don't want, slow and expensive,

They are slow because there is a waiting list for the good ones and it takes time to do that type of work.

Expensive because they have very high labour costs and particularly insane social contributions, which have to be passed on to their customers.

What I need is a prefabricated shell that can be bolted together quickly and easily and fitted out by tradesmen.

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

Those french builders are clever you know Cory, building your stairs out of sheep... :D

I wondered what you were on about at first, what a silly sod I am.

Lot's of prefab porn here for you Dave - but it's over the boarder in Germany.

Searches for "Kit houses" or "Factory built homes" seem to bring up lots more useful hits than "Prefab" or "Prefabricated".
