Nasty ideas wanted

There is a food thief at my son's uni,so far since September it is estimated that about £1000 worth has gone missing.

They are pretty sure they know who it is,but catching them is another matter entirely. :(

I suggested that some grub should be planted with a good dose of laxatives added. :D

Anybody got any other/better suggestions? :)

Apart from my personal choices of rat poison and broken glass, what about those sweets and lolipops the kids like that turn your mouth and tongue blue, grind them down and add them to foods sit back and wait.

I didn't want to bore you with all the details, but yes, there is at least one kitchen on each floor of each block, most of these have 6- 12 users. The thief pilfers from all of them, all over the uni.

Electrical appliances (other than the usual radio/tele/computer etc) are not allowed in the rooms,so no personal fridges, multiple plug outlets are also not allowed,so there is a limit to how much can be plugged in anyway.

Get everyone who suspects the culprit to agree to place a certain brand of an item in these areas, and further, get everyone to agree not to open or use any of the chosen food/brand. The culprit will be the only one that is (a) in possession of the opened food/brand or (b)with packaging in the refuse.

Surprising as it may seem Chesters1,my son tends to try and abide by rules.I don't know where he got the idea from but it wasn't me!

The uni does carry out checks on the students rooms. It is not a modern building and I would assume that there would be a very real danger of the elecrtical circuits being overloaded if everyone were to ignore a rule which is presumably there for a good reason.

I don't agree with you that leaving stuff around means you deserve to get it nicked.I would agree that I would expect it to get nicked, but in any reasonably civilised society it should be possible to leave things and expect them to still be there when you want them.

That sounds like a member of staff who has access to all blocks and all kitchens.

Buy 4oz of prawns, leave them for 7 days in a nice warm area inside a plastic bag. Put them into a curry sauce/Sweet and Sour and leave them in the fridge for a day or so, hoping he likes curry or S/S (dont all students?) :D

OR

Can you gain access to the thieves room? if so A few prawns in the hems of the curtains, it will stink for weeks even after he finds them :D
