Just got back from a holiday in Mexico iand in true masochistic style had a few sessions after baby Tarpon (I know this is the freshwater forum) but the topic is a general fishing one and not a salt water one.

 

I love fishing for baby Tarpon but boy is it so so frustrating but at the same time its one of the most exhilarating forms of fishing. Whether its jigging, live baiting or wobbling deads the takes can be explosive, the lows when they spit the bait out and throw the hook can leave you distraught but feeling the line tighten or watching the aerobatics can be pure bliss and when you finaly get one in the boat and realise the state of the leader and fragile hook up the moment is trully awesome.

 

For me they are one of the most interesting and absorbing species to target and knowing that at any moment you can and most likely will loose them creates an intensity I just dont find in most fishing. So what species or method of fishing can drive you to crazyness or despair at times but at other times whern it all comes together leave you feeling on top of the world?

Trying to catch any fish cause it's bigger or better and ending up sitting around like a specihead. Waiting around for something to happen is pure frustration and as you know it will probably happen if you can just stick at it long enough, it usually ends up being a bit of an anti climax anyway. So a bit pointless as well as frustrating.

 

Ps. I get road rage in traffic jams as well. Didn't used to, must be a getting old thing. (Crazy face) (stupid phones no emotions face).

Cod fishing when the pin Whiting arrive.

Expensive well presented bait on a hand tied 3/0 pennel rig, cast as far into the tide as you can get it ripped to bits by tiny pin whiting, one of which you reel in whilst the bloke next door lands a plump codling!

Been targeting a seriously big river pike for 4 years now; totally determined to do it with a lure rod! She's materialised FIVE times behind lures - just appears out of no-where then dissolves away into the depths. ONE swipe at a lure, I suspect out of anger rather than anything else. One day .........

Casting out into a bay, waiting for the alarm on carp lake. Only to sit there watching the 30lb+ carp cruising by right under your rod tip, trying work out how to drop a bait in less than three feet from the bank. All day they were cruising literally right under my rod.

Taking the P or what. I was tempted to just lower the landing net in & scoop them up. Cheating I know, but they were that close.

Fishing is the most peaceful & solitary group activity a going. Every watewr is different every day, thanks for that as same would be boring....
