River Fishing...

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am looking to get back into river fishing as my stuff got stolen a couple years back! (The sods! :bye2:) but recently i have been buying bits and bobs over the months!

Any tips on river fishing with feeder rods? as i have never fished with a feeder always been pole fishing (stupid i know)

Only reason im exploring more is as i want to go for chub (mainly but happy with anything) just i dont really know much about how to fish a river with currents etc... (Previously fished lakes / pits so standing water)

Any help would be much appreciated

Callum :victory:

Its the last day of the coarse fishing river season on Friday, after which you have three months to plan your return to river fishing.

Maybe not the news you were looking for, but that's how it is.

Don't forget you will need a new licence, to start from April 1st

Best advice I can give is to join a club which has some river fishing, and tap in on local knowledge - what rivers were you thinking of ?

What river is a very valid question. Feeder tactics vary considerably and a little local river will require an entirely different approach than the middle Severn or the tidal Trent.

Either way, it's academic for the next three months.

It depends!! Most canals ARE open all year round (though my 2 nearest ones (Kennet & Avon and Basingstoke AREN'T!) Worth checking local bylaws...

Correct - close season is on what is strictly called the Kennet navigation - once the canal untangles itself from the river at Kintbury there is no close season - hence the NAA beats at Avington are open all year around...

The Dane is a good trotting river, though legering big baits is also an option. The Weaver has some good fishing, though I only ever seem to have fished it in matches when it was out of sorts. A bigger, slower flowing river than the Dane. Pole, feeder, float. Sliding float in the deeper bits.

River Weaver in Cheshire, Nantwich?

Float fishing, feeder fishing or ledger (Don't really like ledger tho) or pole? i cant wait to start fishing again!

Thanks for all your comments its been awesome!

P.S: Its good that its closed for couple months as my baby is due any day now so gives me time to be with her before the river opens again!
