Another one of those "What are you using" topics. :D

There are many software packages out there for full blown image editing and graphic creation, to the smaller by comparison applications that do a basic resize and a few other bits.

The industry standard now appears to be Photoshop (I use this), what do you use?

Irfanview for about 97% of what I need to do.

Occasional ventures into a more 'full featured' package that I have at home but whose name escapes me and I'm at work just now.

MGI photosuite 3 does most of what I want, I find I need it less and less now I have a bright monitor :)

Nikon came with some basic editing but I haven't used it yet.

Photoshop is a bit expensive isn't it ?

Though they are easy to rip off the internet and I could get any prog I wanted I still use Paint Shop Pro which is the one I started with many moons ago and I have kind of stuck with it.

for viewing and simple jobs like re-sizing I use XnView - It's free! Very similar to ACDSEE but no licence to buy. www.xnview.com

For anything more serious I use Photoshop CS and for optimising files for the web I save them from Photoshop using ImageReady, excellent file compression!

Photoshop does not have to cost a fortune!!

Well yes it is, I'm fortunate enough to have an licence via a client I do some graphic work for now and again, simply because he does not have the time, all of the time. Works for me.:)

Mainly ArcSoft PhotoImpressions which came free with my earlier Canon camera. I especially like this as it automatically puts 2 pictures on the screen at once so I can decide which one to delete. As I always take several pictues of the same subject this is very handy. For instance it avoids a pic of the captor blinking on trophy shots.

Peggy mostly uses ULead PhotoImpact. It's a powerful, cheaper alternative to Photoshop that's had rave reviews - do a Google search and see! Both of us find it easier to use than Photoshop.
