Devon/Dorset fish meet/match

Great Post Yaskalos.

The Skerries seem very appealing I didn't realise that trawlers weren't allowed along there.

I don't think the Shambles would be a suitable alternative. Its right in the Portland Race and launching would need to be from Portland (it may be tricky to find a suitable launch point down there for a group).

Also its about a 6 - 8 knot tide on the Shambles and about a 3 mile paddle :wacko: It sounds good. But I do have my limits.lol

Hi Guys,

How about Slapton Sands (well pebbles)?

I am still rigging my Yak so have not yet been out in her although very keen to get fishing.

The skerries sounds great but I would feel a little nervous to tell the truth :( to go that far out for a first trip.

I have a Prowler 15 so come guys convince me everything would be ok.

Anybody fancy nursing a newbie at the sport for a short trip or paddle?

What a wimp eh! :)

For the intercounty match open to all, perhaps we should stick to a midwayish mark between Devon and Hants,, eg Worbarrow, Lulworth, Portland or some others not yet suggested.

For the Skerries perhaps we can make it a seperate (weekend?) event for those who have to travel far and for when Simon can get a date together?

Chris I agree with what your saying. For a first trip out it doesn't sound like a good idea. Best to take your kayak in sheltered close inshore waters first and leave the rods behind. Practice reentry and learn how the kayak handles.

I should have a P15 coming my way soon and despite having experience of the Caper I'll be doing exactly the same thing I've just suggested with my new yak. I think Zzippy wants a few more paddles on his new yak before he starts fishing from it.

Speciman, don't you mean you want to have a few paddles on his new yak before he starts fishing :D

On a more sensible note, the inter county challenge needs to be at a safe venue where we can all keep an eye on each other and also any newbies that wish to come along. Save the skerries for another weekend, that way I get two great outings, three with the Tope trip, and still working on the wife, four including Sardinia!

Seriously look at Seatown or West Bay on the Dorset/Devon Border.

Looked at some charts the area has a couple of under water peaks that could be interesting one of which is called Pollock! Although no obvious wrecks etc.

Warbarrow Id like to introduce to the kayaking world. Wrecks, rocks, shingle and reefs. Just need to consider the access. But close in and an easy paddle in good weather.

Fished since 2003, the rest of my life I just wasted.

Hi all,

Definitely think we're discussing two seperate trips here. It's a long trip to beesands(skerries) for anyone out of the county. If I can make it I'm happy to go with the suggested venues of those in the know re:Devon /Dorset border.

Anyone interested in the plaice(skerrries) trip let me know.I could put up a few campers(tents)here and am about 45mins from launch site.(Alcohol and bragging compulsory)

Cheers Jon
