That is a sensible way of viewing it seaside and I fully agree with every word of your post. If a member of that fishing team say made 30 visits to Whitby every year and did the same thing every time he came it would be fair to think he was greedy. But as a one off they all fit the middle criteria. But im ceratin there are many here who would place them in the keeping nigh on everything category.

I guess although you think you have a wide majority subscribing to one viewpoint seaside you actually don't as the middle option is very subjective as what people see as own use and use for bait differs significantly. My bait freezer contains roughly 200 mackerel - yours may contain a pout.

Using the chieftain charters example those lads caught a lot of fish and there was utter disgust from some members of this forum regarding their keeping of that fish yet those anglers claimed it was for their own use or that of their family and friends. These anglers although clearly seein things very different would all have voted for the middle option.

i am one of a party of anglers who travel on chieftain once or twice a year after a six hour drive to get there

what you are forgetting is that each and every angler has the freedom to keep whatever he wants at this present time

the trip that the photos came from was a 70 hour trip costing each angler in the region of £395.00

do you not think that each angler would want something to show for his hard earned money at the end of the day as well as a good days angling

if they had a good day good luck to them i say after all not every trip is like that ( but thats fishing)

when you consider the total catch would have been divided between up to 12 anglers and their families it sheds a different light on it

the last time my daughter and i went on chieftain we caught enough fish to keep us and family and friends going for about three or four months (NON WAS SOLD) and i have had the pleasure of catching them a fun time and good company to boot i paid my money and took my chances

what i dont need is some individual or member of government telling me what i can keep after spending my money if i feel the fish is too small and not worth filliting i return it to the sea ( at least with rod caught fish it does still have a chance of survival )

I get out Fishing Once or twice a year do you really think i will pay for a licence if a licence is enforced the tackle shops and charter business will without doubt suffer losses

I haven't looked at the new fishing conservation section yet, so I might be commenting prematurely, but if it's been lumped in with political threads from the non fishing chat, etc, then an important point has been missed.

I think it's a shame that so many sea anglers can't recognise just how imprtant some of these issues are. It seems that most would rather bury their heads in the sand and pretend it doesn't matter. Funny enough, it's probably the same people who moan the most about not being able to have their say.

Still, all that nasty conservation and political stuff has gone away now so you won't have to think about it any more. Just don't moan when other people now make up their minds what's best for you because you couldn't even be bothered to read about what's going on and give your own opinion.

If AN is truly representative of British sea anglers, then we really are stuffed.

I have to agree with you Steve. whether we like it or not, politics and conservation will affect all of us, including the head-burying brigade. calling people who take an interest and try to influence matters "Liberals" "Socialists" and any other names isn't going to make a blind bit of difference to the outcome, standing up and being counted will.

For the record, I am neither Liberal nor Socialist, nor am I a Greenie, tree-hugger, etc, etc. I put some fish back, I keep some for the table, I use some for bait to catch other fish. I agree with the point made by another poster on this thread that conservation is not merely about catch and release.

I honestly hope that both forums will benefit here.

Conservation is extremely important and there are some very valid arguments and issues that need addressing. There is no intention by me to stifle that; all I'm after is some division so that angling topics can develop, too. Unfortunately, I saw this happening less and less over the past year or so, when we tried to run them alongside each other.

Let's not make this into a them and us situation. We are all anglers and, whether we choose to get involved or not, conservation problems and progress may well affect us all.

They will all join us in the end :lol: even if only for a decent argument.:lol:

I fish, I catches a few, I lose a few, BUT I enjoys. Anglers Trust PM

Not quite sure what your saying jaffa but if you think I was having a go at anyone on that trip you have the wrong end of the stick mate. I backed them at the time and would do it again. I used it as an example of the feeling of some members of the forum. Not my feelings I must add
