Inshore Windfarms

what noise do they make--is it a noise like the wind?

Have you ever heard a windmill in action? Judging by your comment the answer is no. Aside from the sound that the human ear can detect there is plenty of noise that is outside our hearing range.

How come I still catch fish????With the sound of my wind travelling through my Kayak I would have thought every fish for miles would keep clear :headhurt:

May I suggest gripe water for your little problem.

Well i assume they all sound like windy millers windmill, which is very noisy and 300 of them will be heard in Cardiff.

Its all b*llocks, set up by the government to make us think they are doing something to tackle global warming, in truth the turbines cost so much to set up that they take 10-15 years before they pay for themselves and the construction process creates more carbon than they they will save. Most forward thinking countries (Scandinavia) have left wind power behind as it is soo inefficiant.

Hi all,

I'm not wholly convinced with these turbines,I do suspect that the government are paying lip service towards European green targets and I do worry about the effect on birds. There have been recorded instances of wind farms being placed in the path of migrating birds.

I used to think tidal power was the answer but now realise what a devastating influence these could have on our estuaries.

Like David Bellamy my vote would go towards trying to harness wave power. As we're surrounded by coast it has to seriously considered.

I'm in Lowestoft and 'Gulliver', currently the tallest turbine, is around half a mile from me. dependant o wind direction I can hear it at night - enough to keep me awake when I'm having difficulty sleeping.

The frequencies may attract fish - for example, sharks are attracted by low frequency, so perhaps it will attract? Gulliver is just inshore, maybe 1-200 metres from the sea, and the fishing is still good there for bass, sole and cod, whether it's better or worse I can't say.

Wetter than an otter's pocket.

There are issues over the construction, having to use a base of concrete the size of a football pitch is not really environmentally friendly

the amount of power being produced is suspect

whether they will be fish holding areas is dependant on the polarity of the electrical field which they don't know until construction is completed, positive may attract the fish whereas negative may leave the area completely barren!!!!!!

Catch and Release fishing is a lot like golf. You don't have to eat the ball to have a good time.

While the dash for greener less polluting forms of energy is very well, we are all being nicely primed to accept higher taxation. IMHO this global warming thing is load of tosh, we know that the climate has seen much hotter and much colder periods in the past, long before man started doing his bit. This planet is quite capable of springing a few surprises of it's own, far better to put our dwindling resources into dealing with the consequences, rather than squandering effort on some 'green' initiative that's supposed to alter the climate.

...So that'll be a bigger Yak to deal with the Tuna and Great Whites off Portland.
