A ghostly, priestly angler.......

Flying Tench, its all your fault!

Reading your latest plea for information on float fishing at night, the following lines came into my mind - about a ghostly fishing monk haunting a river bank.

".....'tis said that he fished at the time of vespers, neglecting his duty, as well he knew.

.....and so he must fish the river nightly, until the fall of the morning dew".....

I can't remember where I read it (searched most of my angling anthologies in vain), and can only remember scraps of the rest of the story - the main message being, "don't mess with this monk."

I'm going nuts, searching the recesses of my memory.

Can anyone give me the name of the poem, the author, and a reference to it ?

I remember it but I never worked it all out, the first line is:- Abie see the Goldfish,

Unable to google any of the poem in question, nothing coming up at all.

Unusual for the monk to be fishing a river and not a stewpond.

ROFL  ........It must be annoying when you start a topic and it ends up on a completely different subject..

Not really Welly, it's about par for most posts. Sometimes the new subject is more interesting than the original (but not this time :) )
