Mark , I agree with you, those fish would have been worth a lot more if kept alive and they may well have been ,that is why I have asked Dant if he had any more info on the issue, if the two men convicted of fish theft had a van load of dead fish ......what do you think they would be used for? lets wait and find out if Dant can enlighten us shall we?

Ps, Mark , I have framed in the last couple of open matches on the Yare already this season but Webster has not seen fit to publish my name in the Yarmouth Mercury or the EDP, he knows I do not like him and is being petty, am I bovvered? ha ha.

Bob,

he didnt actually say they were dead, but lets not split hairs!!

Actually bob, i won my first ever match last week, it was a matchman/ speci hunter pairs match for cats!!

the actual way the match went was that the spezi acted pretty much as a ghillie for the matchman that you were paired with. i was paired with Mat Hall who is a top top guy, as all the lads were. we actually got a flyer as i think the venacular is!! and had 4 cats of 17.10, 19.01, 20.06 and 27.00. unfortunately the 20.06 ddnt count to the match weight as i caught that one with 15 mins of the match left as i had never caught a cat before!!

these were the two biggest

Mark , that is fascinating, a new concept in match fishing I heard a whisper about this and knew Steve Ringer and Neil Machin were involved, tell you what, start another thread and post the photo on it, I think we have hijacked poor Dant's thread with this, I am sure plenty of other anglers would be interested.Bob.

Bob

This isn't my thread, I wouldn't want to claim a thread such as this one..

I'll try and find out some more details.. I havn't replied earlier because I've been fishing this evening.

There was a story on the conviction in the EDP and The Yarmouth Mercury. I'll try searching on the web for extra info.

The conviction was from around 3 years ago and involved two men, one local to the area, found acting suspiciously near a boatyard on the River Thurne, upon further inspection and a veichule search by the police who had apprehended them, was found plastic dustbins and containers with fish both dead and alive and quite a number.

This was before the larger story more recent story in the EDP.

I too have seen the aftermath and nearly eye witnessed large scale movement of fish on the Broads.. I wrote a long e-mail at the time to the EA and recieved no reply, I tried calling, left a message and my call was not returned.

What these fish were intended for I don't know there could be a number of things, such as a stocking of a private stillwater for example..

Mark - by sugesting that the fish were intended for the deadbait trade. I was by no means whatsoever taking a broadside at specialist Pike anglers. If anything, it reflects badly on any tackle shops who may of purchased such fish from an illegitamate supplier if that was the case...

I can quite clearly recall certain shops selling un-branded deadbaits in packs of 3 or 4, nearly always Roach. It coincided with the time when fish stealing in the Broads was considered at it's peak.

I've not seen them since. It's purely circumstantial.

Cheers Dant, I saw them for sale too and made inquiry's with the relevant managers of the shop's, neither of them could produce an invoice, I have not seen the like for some time now, so it is good news all round, do I blame Pike anglers for purchasing them? no, they probably never gave it a thought, afterall they were buying them OVER the counter and not UNDER it, all of this is not conclusive proof though, the fact that it has stopped is enough for me and the fact that last winter there were no repeat signs of large amounts of fish scales in the wet sheds but loads of fish will do too, thanks for the info, I must have missed the story about the conviction's, but to be fair I rarely read Webster's article's, regards Bob.

Cheers Bob..

I think it's just one of those un-fortunate things that happens every now again. Hopefully nobody else will have any bad ideas about raiding the Broads fish supply's whatever they intend to use them for.

What with salt surges et al The Norfolk Broads have enough to worry about

I think I may of actually brought a couple of those suspect packages without thinking at the time..

tony u,

Actually, I am not a student as I graduated with a 1st class degree early summer 2006.

Im so glad you found many errors in my English in a rushed post written in the AM's, on a forum! You must feel quite the intellect now we have acertained that you can read, write and notice vastly important mistakes in grammer, punctuation and spelling. For this you should recieve special praise from your peers and fellow forum members, and be awarded a great big GOLD STAR. :clap2::clap2::clap2: Well done that man!

If you could only have picked up on my errors back when I was at school, I cant imagine where Id be now.

Once again Tony, good work and thankyou for your laudable contributions, we illiterates would be lost without such influences.

PC is often used as short hand for personal computer, but it can also mean Pollitical Correctness. The latter is something best not discussed as any failure to comply with pollitical correctness engenders uproar and one maybe labelled a RACIST or a mindless illiterate.

Rabbit dear boy, it seems we Brits have no right to be patriotic in any sense, or as you rightly say, call a spade a spade but such is the current climate we live in with much emphasis placed on a happy wonderful multi ethinc england!

(eh Tony did you notice I spelt England with a lower case e? I Hope not, what will the readers think of my spelling :o YFKH!!!!!!!)

You are not the only one on these forums with a degree, (for whatever that counts), and I will not demean myself by pointing out the grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors in your current post.

As you seem unwilling to, I will give you one definition of Political Correctness:

The term "political correctness" was engineered by American conservatives around 1980 as a way to reframe political arguments in the United States. According to Hutton:

"Political correctness is one of the brilliant tools that the American Right developed in the mid-1980s as part of its demolition of American liberalism....What the sharpest thinkers on the American Right saw quickly was that by declaring war on the cultural manifestations of liberalism - by levelling the charge of political correctness against its exponents - they could discredit the whole political project."

Such commentators say that there never was a "Political Correctness movement" in the United States [or anywhere else for that matter], and that many who use the term are attempting to distract attention from substantive debates over discrimination and unequal treatment based on race, class, and gender (Messer-Davidow 1993, 1994; Schultz 1993; Lauter 1995; Scatamburlo 1998; Glassner 1999). Similarly, Polly Toynbee has argued that "the phrase is an empty rightwing smear designed only to elevate its user".
