Whilst carp fishing with a friend today i noticed everytime he was handling a carp he had his thumb in the carp's mouth. When i asked him about it he said it calmed the fish n reduce the flapping.Whilst the carp did seem to be calm i've never heard of this so i thought i would ask the forum,so has any1 else heard of this?

Yes

It works with most species just be careful if you do it with chub and don't put your fingers too far in or else their throat 'teeth' can give you a bit of a shock

Don't try it with a pike....

Yes,it also gives you a safe holding point. Shame more dont use it rather than trying to hold the fish as far out as possible.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

My mother-in-laws boyfriend told me this trick. It kinda works.

My MIL also told me that because fish have no eyelids covering their head over in the net hading their eyes clams them down too. That definately seems to work.

I certanly use it as a secure way of holding a mahseer for a photo. Even if the fish bucks about, you generally retain enough control to stop it from injuring itself.

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))
