Nowt to do with a fella losing a decent bass, is it?

:whistling::whistling:

Could just be angling skills. He doesn't catch fish too often. Don't tell me - he had the phone to his chin whilst telling you about someone pretty he'd met at Nacton. ;)

I remember back in 1985 I lost a fish under those circumstances. The thing was we didn't have fancy modern gear back then and the breaking strain of cotton was a bit of a lottery.

There would have been no excuse if we'd had use of a smart Shimano bolted to one of Fladen's finest..................for instance??? :rolleyes::D

Hi Steve

It usually happens 2 or 3 times a day on the inshore Pollack.

Bering in mind the anglers are fishing with carp or spinning rods in just 30 ft of water The clutch has to be set perfect for the double figure fish. To slack and the Pollack is straight into the kelp, to tight and a 10 lb Pollack will smash 30 pound amnesia like cotton.

Steve,

You're a git :)

I blame the stiff reel and the sneaky bar-steward of a bass that did it :D

I lost the best bass of this year due to applying to much pressure whilst netting the fish, it saw the net and took off and was heading under two other lines so I thumbed the spool to steer it back and the flouro carbon line parted at the knot, not a break but it pulled the knot free of the swivel.

I had tied and tested the knot with a lot of pressure and left a tag, I have now switched back to mono. I have read and seen this problem a number of times with flouro-carbon and wonder if when the line is wet it slips a lot more.

I hope to rectify this loss on Sunday with another trip out of Milford.

I fish, I catches a few, I lose a few, BUT I enjoys. Anglers Trust PM

As I said yesterday, "It's better to have hooked and lost, than to have never hooked before."

Actually, you were right - no it isn't :(
