Have you thought of putting a picture up in the local tackle shop, pub,or anywhere else, to get other fishermans attention, also to publicly shame the git whos doing the damage to the Skate.

Also other skippers and boat owners.

Or would it have an adverse affect, and cause more trouble.

could it be a sort of tribal thing ,the fish on reaching maturity "mark" themselves with a sharpened narwhale spear dooda and show their "colours",after all much more intelligent beings do the exact same thing with scarring etc

Yes I see your point.

But on the other hand it will show that the majority of fisherman care about thier sport and are passionate about protecting the fish, treating them with the respect they deserve.
