Loss of a Pet - RIP my little guy

I normally wouldn't have posted this but a friend in the UK had given me the following that might help someone else through what I am experiencing today. My faithful friend of 19+ years will be put down in a couple hours and I have been gutted since making that decision. RIP, Pockets, my sweet little guy.

If it Should Be

If it should be that I grow frail and weak,

and pain should keep me from my sleep

Then you must do what should be done

for this last battle can't be won

you will be sad I understand,

Don't let your grief then stay your hand

for this day more than all the rest

Your love and friendship stand the test

We've had so many happy years

What is to come can hold no fears

You'll not want me to suffer so

When the time comes please let me go

Take me were my needs they'll tend

Only stay with me until the end

and hold me firm and speak to me

until my eyes no longer see

I know in time that you will see

it is a kindness that you do for me

Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Sorry to hear that Jan, it's a terrible wrench even though we all know the day will come sometime.

I still remember taking my only dog to the vet for the last time as if it were yesterday, it was actually 22 years ago.

19 years in your company would have been the best life that I can imagine for Pockets.

Take care, Jan. Shed a tear. Shed loads of tears, but think of the good times, too.

Awww Bless you Jan. I'm sorry to read of your loss, I know what your going through, I've had to lose two lovely Labradors who've spent 16 long and happy years with us. The blow was lessened somewhat as we had a new pup at the time. Thankfully 10 yrs on and we've still got him, now I dread what's to come in the future when it becomes his time.

But remember the good times you had with him and time will heal, you won't forget him, and neither should you.

Big comforting hug for you

Sorry to hear of your loss too Jan. I say that because I've a feeling our 17 year old Cat took himself off somewhere to die last night. He'd not been too well for a few weeks now, loosing the odd claw and generally shutting down. We took him to the vets to see what might need to be done but she said it was worth trying a Steroid shot to see if he improves. He did for a while but was feeling very sorry for himself last night. I saw him go out of the Cat Flap early evening after refusing his food and haven't seen him since. :(

Jan, he had the BEST life possible I know!! And our thoughts will be with you, take heart and rejoice in the life you have had.

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

I've had many, many hugs from my big guy John.

Pockets went to sleep, for the last time, in my arms about 2 hours ago. RIP.
