Bots?

Is AN being inundated by 'bots?

I noticed a couple of members that I hadn't seen before, and being a bit of a nosey git I decided to have a look at them. As I hovered the curser over their names, it showed they were members, both joined on the same day, and active at the time, but had made no posts. I clicked on them and got a message saying that they are no longer active members, the opposite of what the first said. I clicked on some that I knew were members and active posters, and everything was OK. Could this be just the general run down state of the site, are they bots, or and I being daft?

If it helps, they were Galenvar, and Ridgemup.

(Can you tell I'm at a bit of a loose end today, and bored?)

I thought you meant something akin to trolls until I googled the term. (for other computer semi-literates a bot is a robotic device that extracts information from your posts at the speed of electronic gadgets - according to Wiki, "bots" account for 50% of internet traffic, Good bots are simply self-serving - ie gathering info so they can bombard you with ads they think you might respond to, Bad bots are nastier than most of us can imagine)

I suppose the answer, John, is "very likely" "Be careful what we post" is the best advice I can think of.

That could be the answer to the missing members John.

They've all been assimilated :o.

I don't think any of this lot would come out looking like 7 of 9 though.
