Interesting Read Wood Burners

Even better the woodburner can have a back boiler .

Never understood designers in the last house the oil fueled boiler was on the opposite side of the wall from our fire ,why didnt the builder put in a back boiler and join it to the oil fired boiler to heat the central heating water?

That was a gravity system ,the pipes out of the boiler went straigt up into 3 inch pipes via the hot water tank up in the loft which went right along the attic and all the rads were joined in a line ,the hot water going up pushed the water along all the rads on the return side .

Not a
perfect system but it worked but the last few rads never got hot so i put in 2 valves which switched the end 3 rooms off diverting the water into fewer rads hense the pot belly stove in the furthest room the two bedrooms out there didnt need heat the crap crittel windows wasted any in there anyway!

Unfortunately the oil fired boiler was to small to heat even that properly and cost £400 in the 80's a month to run so we got tough and wore a jumper

Slightly off topic, but the smell of a smoldering garden fire will give me a blinding headache. 

Remember "Drawing" the fire with a sheet of Newspaper??

I remember the panic when it caught fire lol

Barbeques are two faced ,if its yours smoking away it smells fine if its someone elses it stinks!
