Tony, June 2004 was quite reasonable in the Medway - I had five thicklips. July and August were dire (two and three respectively). September was my best month (8); October I had just one (I quit halfway through the month).

2003, July and August were good.

Both years, my biggest fish came in September.

Thanks for the advice, lads.

Torness is an hour or so north of Alnwick, but I think the warm water outfall from the station might have a lot to do with the prescence of mullet there.

I might try Amble harbour, although in all my years fishing, I`ve never spoken to anyone who`s seen a mullet there.

I`ll keep you all posted.

weymouthsean, when they ask if you can eat them? tell them no they are full of sewage, well they are round my area, find a cr*p outfall you'l find mullet its where the algae grows best, if you dare eat them its one sure fire way of contracting some pretty nasty difficult to treat stomach bugs not counting worms of course yuk, i was told this the other week by a specialist. oh he also said some of these bugs that are present in these conditions are very tolerant to quite high temperatures so cooking may not kill them either, you have been warned..........

Don't worry Stavey I have no intensions of ever eating one but it just seems funny how obsessed people are about eating what ever they manage to catch! If I did want to eat some fish it is much easier just to go over the pier and drag out 20 mackerell in about half an hour.

Not nearly as much fun as the mullet fishing though!

All my mullet in this country have always gone back alive!

After my early Mullet from Gillingham pier a few weeks ago, I took one from Sun Pier on Saturday aprox 3lb - 3 1/4lb. I did not weigh it as it appeared quite knackered after a protracted fight, so released it prompty after a quick photo.

Yesterday I managed one of 1lb at Littlehampton, Matt ( Baldwin )took his first ever being 3 1/2lb. Well done. Thought he did a good job playing it, while did was not a manic fish it did put up a good account of itself. Shame we did not get any more for 9 hours of effort. I did not see any working the tide line or by the old wood piles. In fact the only sign of Mullet was a few floating bread pieces being hit a couple of times, they disappeared as quickly as they arrived.

Nice to see huge shoals of pin fry which appeared with the new tide but suprised at the amount of loose seaweed, did not know we had had a storm on the south coast?
