Now only £40. Review by Terry Knight.

Avon-style rods are as British as a bulldog – they’ve served anglers with style and reliability for over 30 years and this latest version under the Holland and Wilkinson label is an absolute beauty.

So what makes them so good? Well, for me they’re the ultimate rod – use it legering on rivers or lakes, for rolling meat or fishing the feeder.

Or put away the quiver section and use the hollow top section and you can float fish with it or indeed leger. This hollow top is great for bream and tench fishing when casting out leger rigs and using bobbins and indicators.

Holland and Wilkinson Twin Tip Avon Rod And that’s not all. I love these rods for floater fishing for carp as the soft progressive action permits me to use light hooklinks and smaller hooks – essential when targeting fish ‘off the top’.

There’s not much you can’t do with an Avon, even less with a pair of them.

The Holland and Wilkinson is super slim and is made from very hi-grade carbon, with the handle made of cork featuring a winch fitting on the reel seat.

All my other Avon rods are made by Fox and if memory serves they cost more than £100 each… the Holland and Wilkinson is in the sale at £40. That’s a lot of rod for the money.

And if you don’t believe me, here’s a film of it in action – it’s a cracker!
