Small But Clever

For years now I have made the majority of my rigs for shore fishing securing snoods to main trace via a clip passed through a small swivel which in turn was held in place by beads and crimps.

Invariably, when fishing in any weed, these were the main positions for the weed to gather.

Two months ago I found the “Mustad Two Way Beads” whilst purchasing rig components.

These neat clear beads stream ,line the rig, avoiding much of the weed problems and, unlike swivels, there is nothing for the snood to double back on in heavy surf or currents.

They eliminate the small area of high strain induced by the swivel being pulled against the main trace line as length of the beads spreads the load along the line.

Rust problems are eliminated and the beads are a reusable item further reducing the cost of rigs.

Mustad Two Way Beads

They are simple to use, the main trace line passes through a hole in the bead length ways and is secured with crimps either side. The snood passes through a hole across the bead and is secured with a small knot in the snood.

They come in three main trace line sizes, 4-12lb, 10-20lb and 20-30lb, 20 to a box for £1.20p.

I have used a 40lb line on the 20-30lb without any problems.

Small technology at its very best.
