my missus who is for all intent and purposes retired although she's still a kid with a few more years to go, has pointed out that she has paid her N I contributions for 37 years.

 

As she only pays a basic legal amount now, classed as self employed, for retirement purposes she has already done her 30 year contribution and is entitled to the full (Yippee), state pension when she does retire.

 

the question is, as there is no other benefits to claim and she has paid in full for the pension, why does she need to carry on with these n I payments?

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Because despite what many of us think, apart from the TV Licence taxes in this country are not hypothicated. NI, Income Tax, Corporation Tax. Fuel Duty, Vehicle Excise Duty, VAT etc, all go into into one big pot at the Treasury.

 

I'm not advocating for or against this policy, just trying to explain it.

HMRC are responsible for everything in the short list that I mentioned apart from Vehicle Excise Duty and the TV License.

Because NI is a tax - which is why I constantly advocate the abolition of NI and the creation of a single income tax.

Doing this would not only reduce administration costs, it would also enhance transparency. For instance, everybody knows that you pay more income tax if you're a high earner but how many people realise that the amount of NI that you pay decreases significantly?

The government would, and just rename NI as something else and take even more tax ,VAT for instance is nothing more than the old purchase tax of the past but undoubtedly brings in more revenue than its old name

Council tax used to be called rates etc etc

Just new words for extracting money from you ,a tax collector is always in work as is a pawnshop
