  1. I could only make the august date, and don't worry my sons are grown up so they actually supervise me LOL. Hope I can make it cos I wanna meet that Matt Hillman guy as I have an fs2 acquaintance with him that goes back a bit
  2. My method is to use three day old bread and break it into a clean bowl, add just enough water to soften it and knead and mash it with my hands. I have tried using potato mashers etc but prefer the sreult that accrues by hand. If I get the mix a little too wet I have been known to stiffen it up with dried milk powder and/or custard powder. (The latter really colours your hands)This gives an added flavour boost too. I have thought of flavouring my bread mash with Turmeric or similar for winter but never had the guts to try.
  3. It hasd to be the UK cos I cant afford to fish in mainland Europe
  4. In anticipation of my lottery win I look forward to thos epowerpoint presentations...........I just need to hurry and win as a fishery near me is for sale with two very well established lakes, and a three year old match lake too all producing good bags of mainly tench and carp but potential there planning permission for one more lake and the house included wheres my ticket !!!
  5. I tend to prefer using spades in the smaller sizes as I think the lay of the tackle is more natural and straighter.......but when using eyed hooks I prefer the palomar knot....easy to tie with arthritic fingers and I believe its percentage knot strength is greater than other knots. Unless of course tying hair rigs when I use the knotless knot
  6. U can put me and at least one of my two sons down as possibles
  7. Ok I will be a good boy and tell you how I caught most of the good rudd I have caught. Ledger bread popped up with a small poly ball just above the hook. Allow the reel line to run completely freely through the ledger link start a session by casting and allowing the bread to rise about a quarter of the depth upwards before stopping it. Do this a number of times then increase the amount of line allowed to 'pop up' thus decreasing the depth fished at. Do this gradually during the session till you have fished all the depths available. Sometimes a floating maggot on the hook with the bread flake is a killer combo.
  8. And for your session tomorrow, the following..... Lord grant that he may catch a perch, so big that even he, when speaking of it afterwards, need not lie to me. Good luck.
  9. Worked for my best m8. He has a company that restores and even sup[plies newly commisioned stained glass wiondows in churches dirty work but very satisfying. Enjoyed following this thread.
  10. oooooh chester dont you mean an imp with an artists easel......well mr pratchett says so
  11. Maybe Im missing the point but..............would I harass a person with a loaded gun............I think not [ 01. February 2005, 03:52 AM: Message edited by: SteveH ]
  12. When turning cork and balsa 'dowel' for float bodies I tend not to use a blade of any sort but different grades of sand paper, the results I get compare well with anything I have ever bought ready made. Steve
  13. Many people mistake Dunnocks for Sparrows and sparrows are in serious decline, as for the starlings, it varies from year to year here in s yorks but last year there were loads flocking. Steve
  14. Maybe I need to drop the price a little, thisis a very nice pole, stiff over its full length, light for its size and made by the leading uk pole manufacturer........Well guys and guyesses, if the price I state doesnt whet your pallette, gimme some offers of what you think is fair for a lovely, brand new and unused pole that will take elastics up to 20. All I ask at this stage is make fair offers that do you as the buyer and me as the seller a favour. The reason for this sale is that I already have a pole of similar spec, and this came as part of an insurance claim. I am mainly into rod and line fishing hence the bargain offer. Steve
  15. Topic: Is there any bait that carp wont eat? Any bait I am currently using normally gets refused
  16. Brand new and unused, with holdall, top 3 and 3xtop 2 power kits, dirt caps, and guarantee. Not cut back for bushes. Unused insurance 'present', not required by me, rrp is 800, discount prices are 500+ my price £425 buyer to collect or pay postage. This is a genuine offer, I will accept very near offers but unwilling to go much lower on price. I am willing to deliver within yorkshire but for cash sale only. This Pole is brand new so in excellent condition. [ 01. February 2005, 09:01 PM: Message edited by: SteveH ]
  17. I have got to second the info on the river swale..............my absolute favourite river for grayling and barbel. One place found by accident is the river Nidd actually inside the Mother Shiptons cave complex in Harrogate, at the weir just below the lido there is a large triangular rock jutting out from the weir wall. I fish of that just dipping my hand into the water and getting pices of silk weed to put on the hook, I trot this into slack areas of the weir pool for some very good bags of grayling and trout. One further suggestion is the Costa Beck, day ticket water, just a narrow stream, and chock full of grayling, tickets are only £2 / day and best location is the area around Flamingo Land. Tight Lines.
  18. I would try the canal in Thorne, opposite the Canal Tavern, some very good double figure Pike have been caught there over the last couple of years mainly to dead baits, and especially in the autumn/winter months. It is also well worth while trying for some excellent winter chub there. You might also try the Delves in Thorne, heats for the National Pike Championships have been held there. Member books cost onlt £7/year for adults £3.50 for Juniors and day tickets are available too. These let you fish the Delves, Stainforth and Keadby Canal and stretches of the Aire and Calder, real value for some excellent fishing.
  19. I am well over 15, but live and fish in yorkshire (I fish elsewhere too) My sons both fish so if you want advise or owt give us a shout.
  20. Hiya, I know this is a late reply but how about you ICQ me (my number is 167075118) and I will arrange to send you a budget version (but still very good) electronic bite alarm. I dont use it much and know what it is like to suffer theft of tackle. Gimme a shout and you can have it.
  21. One flask hot water to make tea or coffee, one flask of Oxo with white pepper and chilli added, (Guaranteed to wrm the cockles [even of the guy sat opposite you in his bivvy])
  22. Hiya Gazza, I have been offline for a while but would like to join your league if I may. (Steve in Donny - I'm an ICQ contact of yours)
